Dodger walked downstairs to be greeted with an empty house.

She smiled, relieved to finally have some time to herself.

So much had happened in recent weeks- she got engaged, David was getting married, her best friends were all pregnant- that all she wanted was some alone time.

She took to the kitchen and set about making breakfast for herself.

"What to make," she asked herself quietly, looking through all the cabinets for an idea.

Her thoughts were disturbed by the sound of the front door opening.

Dodger sighed. She had really hoped to have more time to herself.

But when you live in a house that's the main hang out for the extended family, there isn't much of it to go around.

"I'm in the kitchen," she called out, hearing the footsteps head in her direction. "I've just started breakfast. If you want, I can make it for two."

"That's okay. I won't be here for long," Bert McCracken said, walking into the kitchen.

Dodger froze, her mind immediately shutting down.

The only thing that she could process was that she needed to get her engagement ring off. Now.

She pulled it off and slipped it into her pocket before turning around.

"Bert," she smiled, feeling the famliar butterflies come to life in her stomach. "What are you doing here?"

Bert smiled; Dodger was already playing right into his hands.

"I came by to see you, what else?"

He walked up to her, running his hand softly down her cheek.

"I wanted to apologize," he lied. "I never meant to hurt Chislett."

It took all his will power to not bite out the other vampire's name.

"He didn't deserve what I did to him, I just...let my emotions get away with me. I'm sorry, and I hope you can find it in you to forgive me. I- I don't know what I'd do if you ever hated me," Bert finished, looking at the ground as the only sincere sentence in his apology ended.

"Bert," she started, lifting his chin to look in his eyes, "I could never hate you, alright? Never."

The soft smile of Dodger's face was sincere, and Bert had trouble not laughing at how easily she fell into his trap.

He expected nothing less, of course. She loved him; he knew that. It was that Aussie that got in the way of their happiness.

Something he didn't expect, though, was the front door opening and a familiar voice ringing into the kitchen.

"Dodger?"

Her face immediately lit up at Guy's voice, and a dopey smile appeared on her face.

Bert sighed angrily; he hadn't considered this into his calculations.

The Aussie would ruin everything he'd just set up.

Dodger's hand subconsciously moved to her pocket, removed the ring, and placed it back on its proper finger.

Bert's eyes widened. His Dodger was engaged? To someone who wasn't him, moreover.

"In ths kitchen," she called, not even considering the carnage that would come when he found the other vampire in the house.

Guy smiled. Hearing Dodger's voice always did that to him.

He switched his direction to the kitchen, walking through the door and freezing in his tracks.

"What the hell is going on here?"
