I showed the pictures to a friend at work and she tells me that the bird is a kingfisher, which is rarely seen, so I had a bit of a coup. :)

I knew it was not a robin by the beak, but I did not know for sure to come up with a name. Thankfully, I know people who know :)

I had a link to vivary park on wikipedia and it said Kingfishers were common to the park. I clicked on another link and it gave a list of kingfisher species.

Oh, now you've got me thinking about the other birds that have been in the tree opposite my flat - darn, forgotten the name! I'll ask Maggie - she's a bird fancier. ;)
