So. Lost is ending today. End of an era, end of a journey, etc. I can go on and on about what that personal journey's been for me, and maybe I will, later, but I will say this: my personal journey wouldn't have been nearly as awesome if it weren't for the friends that I made and made watch while the show was on the air. So this is a shoutout to the people who have enhanced my episodes, or something like that.
My victims:
calluna: We knew each other before she started watching Lost. I'm sure you can infer from here what, or who, got her to start watching it. But, anyway, we were close before Lost, and I'm sure we'll be close after Lost. Heather's my partner in crime, man. She's the Fletch to my Richard Maxwell Smart to my Benjamin Linus. If I were stupid enough to jump at Jacob asking me if I'd like to protect the island, she'd be the first person in mind to be my Richardus. She plays an awesome Daniel Faraday over at
beyondtherift, so awesome that I'm ashamed I didn't love Daniel more in canon. She is going to KICK ASS in LA and don't let anyone tell you otherwise, bb. <333
timjr: Who I am so, so happy I introduced to Lost, because this gave the world his RP!Hurley. Tim is a sweet guy who's open to learning from his mistakes, which I've always found admirable about him. Plus he's just an all around fun loving guy. I'm happy he was the reason I finally saw Jaws (on the big screen, too!).
signalbeam: CANNOT FINISH LOST SOON ENOUGH. SHE KEEPS THREATENING TO WRITE FIC AND EVEN WROTE A LI'L JACARDO (I LIKE THIS MOOSH UP BETTER THAN JICHARD TBH) FIC AND IT WAS AS AMAZING AS ALL HER OTHER FICS. DYING OF ANTICIPATION RN. Hadn't I talked to her before completing this post I would have felt guilty. We met in the Persona 4 fandom. I love, love, love her P4 fics. She's a fantastic writer. I'm a little surprised by our friendship, as I usually admire writers from a ~distance and don't become chat buddies with them (or "watching our shared canon at her house" buddies as outlined later). And now she's putting evil thoughts into my head, like "you want to buy crystallized ginger", nevermind that she's tempting me to watch her own shows. In addition to being a fantastic writer and an enabler in her own right, she also has fantastic taste in beards. :3
Mah fellow stans:
khaman: I honestly don't remember where I met her. I think
ack_attack's posts? Thing is, we kept running in to each other in other communities like
ontd_lost and
henrygalelovers that we could've bumped elbows in any one of those places before we started realizing "hey, I like this other person--let's be friends!"
khaman has been an awesome person not just for letting me watch season six at her and her husband's apartment this year. She was one of the people who inspired and helped me to move to Pittsburgh and is one of the many friends who've made this city great for me. Man, I just. Cannot even begin to describe how amazing she's been for me the past year. There's food involved, okay? Good food. (And bread. Holy crap, the bread.) Not to mention she's one of the best writers in fandom. Also, I'm pretty sure Jacob and the Man in Black have been reincarnated as cats and live in her apartment. And that Jacob is terrified of me (but the MIB loves me, go figure).
in_the_blue: First met her at
milliways_bar, where she played, brilliantly, Spike Spiegel from "Cowboy Beebop". And when I say brilliantly I MEAN brilliantly. Like, intimidatingly brilliantly. Like if I were inclined to shit myself I would've totally done that when she tagged me. Not. Worthy. I love
in_the_blue because not only is she an excellent writer, she is very, very supportive of other writers. Her support for my and others' writing has been invaluable when I've felt uncertain about what I'm doing. I tend to have an open-minded view of fandom these days. She's one of the reasons why.
woodshavings: THE JACOB TO MY RICHARD. It is all her fault that I fell in love with this ship by virtue of playing an AWESOME Jacob against my Richard. She's helped keep
lost_dressing alive and for that I thank her. Plus, I think she's just an all around awesome, inspiring person. I love how willing she is to learn even the hard lessons about life. And her enthusiasm for our shared show is inspiring in itself. When we're all stressed out and anxious to see how it will end and if it can end satisfactorily, it's refreshing to be around someone who's just happy it's still on.
pantspolice: MAKES THE BEST LOST ANIMATED ICONS EVER. She takes the lulz that have been delivered fresh to our fandom and spices it up to make it even lulzier. AND THEN SHE JOINED
lost_dressing AND BROUGHT EVEN MORE LULZ LIKE
THIS .GIF THREAD. Like, we're n00b friends and all but I love every time we interact because it's bound to include high octane awesome.
tamburlaine: Fucking rock star. I mean, enthusiasm for the show is awesome, but on the nose, fearless criticism of it is awesome, too. And she's one of the best, fiercest criticism of the show. I always look forward to what she has to say because it's interesting and true, and that she can deliver her critique with great wit is a plus.
schmiss: take too many of her icons tbh. Guess it's 'cause she's so good at it and at making graphics in general. She's an all around cool chicka, someone with a fun personality who can still talk about the serious things with clarity and intelligence. I think I wanna be like her when I grow up.
sdelmonte: more multifandom pal than anything, but back when we were playing together in
milliways_bar he was always one of the people I loved to thread with. One of the few who posted in the morning, which was a plus! I loved all his characters, but more than that I loved his support and his rationality. In RP sometimes you can fly into bits of hysteria. It was nice having someone as down-to-earth like him as a friend. He brings that same levelheadedness to his approach to how he views his canons, so that his reaction posts are a nice mix of adoration and criticism.
chrryblssmninja: at this stage of running
weareinhell I would've been like Richard in "Everybody Loves Hugo", screaming at everyone and foretelling doom if it weren't for a few things: a) I'd like to think I'm more level headed than I was years before when I tried to run a community, b)
chrryblssmninja's enthusiasm and participation. This is one chicka who just won't quit, and not in the bad way. In the amazing, damn this chick is strong and fierce and badass and lives up to her name as a fucking ninja way. If only we had her level of endurance.
dopplegl: Way way WAY WAY back during season one of Lost, when we were at
milliways_bar together, and I was playing Locke and he was playing Boone, we--damn. Had some uh-may-zing threads together. He had so many fun ideas for our characters and I had a blast playing with him. Damn, I'm getting all nostalgic now... But I miss those days.
lostinapapercup:
in_the_blue's RP partner in crime. Beautiful music plays when they thread together. And they thread together as Sawyer and Kate. She's Kate, such a good Kate that when I feel my faith in Kate slipping, I think of her interpretation and it's restored. Then again I haven't seen yet seen her play a character poorly. I'm pretty sure she could take someone like Bram or Zoe and make them amazing, too.
valhalla37: Okay, okay, I don't ship Charladay, but when you can stan someone whose fics are about a couple and even a character you don't really care for, that means they got ~skillz, right? And
valhalla37 has ~skillz. She also turns out to be a very nice and enthusiastic person who makes the LOST writing community feel that much more inviting.
nanaluvren: if Ben is the Island, then
nanaluvren is like Jacob. Or Jack. Or Mother. TAKE YOUR PIC. None of them protect the island as fiercely as she defends/loves Ben, though.
bomburjo: is like the Target of the Lost fandom for me. She can draw, she can write, she can make icons, so basically everything I want out of fandom she does and she does well.
miniquai: was like my first
ontd_lost BFF and someone who kept me sane during those early days of frustration. Plus, she fanned the flames of my love for Sun and Bun, back in those lonely days of feeling like the only one who shipped it. My second in command of the Bun army, if you will. I MISS YOU BB. ♥!
...ah, love memes are exhausting. Even if I haven't mentioned you but know you watch Lost, take my word for it: you definitely have made my viewing experience worth it just by talking to me about it: on my journal or your journal (any place's a great place to have an awesome conversation with
shoroko, who has never stopped being amazing ever since I first met her; and I legit perk up whenever
aegoceros has something to say about the show), in strange and foreign lands (like JournalFen--lookin atchoo,
nam_jai), in other people's journals (lol sup
aircrash--OH SHALL I MENTION HOW GREAT IT IS TO HAVE SOMEONE ON MY FLIST WHO'S A LOST STAN AND A PERUSONA STAN?), in RP threads (awesome RP threads, which I recall having with
openexit,
austen,
shambalah and
doihearawaltz), in communities fawning over the same favorite characters (y helo thar
felldeedsawake,
starfoozle,
tommytonebender and
moosewizard), or just by watching you fall in love with the show (like
genjadeshade, who doesn't have to convince me too hard to watch BSG after this) or talking with you about fanfic and RP (
sexonastick and
viridian, holla!).
I just. You guys have no idea how happy it makes me just to be able to discuss the show with someone else. Customers who watch Lost have suddenly became my favorite customers in the world because otherwise nobody watches it and nobody really cares. Which is fair, but when something has your heart as much as Lost has mine, having someone else to share the love with suddenly means more than you can express. So, seriously: thank you all for sharing your love (and your critique!) of the show with me. And thank you all for being my friends.
