Oh yes! A new Paul McCartney single! I just downloaded it and I am loving it--it's pure Macca! I think I am on my 10th play of this awesome new tune! The song is called "My Ever Present Past" (check it out Miss Detroit!) and it rocks and bounces along in the manner of of much of his best Wings work. It sounds current, yet recalls songs like "Getting Closer" and "I've Had Enough". He hints about his marriage breakup (I think of everything to be discovered, I hope there's something to find, Searching for the time that has gone so fast, The time that I thought would last... My ever present past). His voice sounds great on this song, too. He hasn't yet hit that age when you think... "uhm, its time to stop now", thankfully!
This song is what I love most about Paul's music--happy, optimistic, warm. If the whole album is like this, it will be considerably more upbeat than "Chaos" was. He can't get no love from the critics for these attributes, but whatever. There is enough dark, moody, navel-gazing music out there. Paul's music has always left me feeling better for hearing it and for that, he has nothing to apologise for.
New album is out June 5th (and as I have since 1978, I will be there to get it on the first day!)
