The sun is unpleasantly bright in the early morning when it's extremely cold out, and I'm a very light sleeper.

It is better to don a blindfold than to curse the brightness.
 

I'm slightly surprised that the only references I can find to "hackward compatibility" appear to be due to scanning errors and typos.

It seems to me to be the perfect term to describe the need for or practise of maintaining all of the kludges and work-arounds that have accumulated over several software generations.
 

When you want to go with your gut feeling instead of with the evidence, try to remember that your guts are usually full of sh*t.
 

A corollary to the usual definition of insanity...  Failing to change behaviour that has previously led to a disastrous outcome, because you don't/won't believe that it can happen again.

I think that everyone suffers from that one, at least a bit.

Without context: When one is doing all that one can, and more than one ought, it is infuriating to be accused of wilfully doing too little.

My plan was to run a load of laundry, then go to see mentisiterinvit in the hospital.  (I just learned that she's going for an MRI, and may not be back in ICU for a couple of hours.)  When I went down to the basement to move the laundry from the washer to the drier, I found the sink/tub full of water and water on the floor.  The tub drain is clogged ( Read more... )
