useless speculating

Is there anybody here with veterinary knowledge? So much sudden loss lately; is it possible that there's some sort of epidemic going on? I guess there's no way to really know. Or nothing to do about it. I just... my heart aches. Every time one of us suddenly loses a friend, I remember Moe Moe going. Down to the tiny details of the look on his face ( Read more... )

i doubt it. we'd have to analyze location of rabbits and causes of death.

You're right, you're right. I hope by making this post I haven't made anything worse for those who are missing their departed buns. My heart was in the right place...

its definitely an unhappy coincidence..... i dont think it's really possible for a pet rabbit epidemic, though, since it's not like they ever come in contact with each other, and a lot of them don't even go outside.

Losing pets is so tough. I agree with the others who have said that it's just a coincidence that a few members here have very sadly lost rabbits recently. Some of those were of a great age, others have died much too soon. The point that was made about rabbits evolving as prey species is a valid one: in the wild, rabbits don't live anywhere near as well or as long as most domestic rabbits and we have to remember that with our pets. We should also be very grateful that veterinary medicine is at the point where it is, allowing us to diagnose and treat a lot of conditions that may also affect wild rabbits, but without them having the chance of being cured. It can't always help and we can't always tell when bunnies are ill, as like you say, they hide it well. However, they are loved and cared-for to the best of our abilities when they are with us and sometimes that's all we can do for them ( ... )

It's very sad, but I noticed many are elder bunns who have had a long life and spread across the world.

So just an unlucky time, maybe hastened by the changing season for vulnerable bunns? :(
