Alex and I came down to Windsor on Friday. My parents just moved into their lovely new house here. It’s strange how quickly this place became home!
On Saturday we drove into London as a family. My brother, sister, Alex and myself were dropped off at the UK Web & Mini Comix Thing 2008, which was much smaller and better than I expected. Alex and I weren’t sure if Neoeno would make it, but in the end he couldn’t. It was a very last minute thing, and arrangements are slow to make!
We walked in cautiously but settled into our natural geeky habitat quickly. We picked up some awesome mini comics, badges and stickers (kicking myself for not getting the con collection book, but my brother got one so scanners away!).
We met Lem, the author of Bunny, and a lovely lady from the same booth, whose name I don’t recall. I got a sticker signed for Neoeno, and we made a little video for him too.
We met Weebl of Weebl’s Stuff, who affirmed that Wonchop was, in fact, a furry... although he wouldn’t say so on camera (he promised to next year though!). Also, a lovely chap who I assume was Skoo (from Weebl’s Stuff), assured us that their range of plushies was still 100% yiffable; although Weebl apparently never saw that ad.
It was interesting meeting Weebl. I’ve been following his stuff since there were less than 10 Weebl and Bob shorts hosted on Jolt. Thats, at least 4 years now. I wanted to meet him because he was an interesting person. I wanted to ask him some questions about what they were up to, how they had changed over the years, how much corporate work they were doing etc... but as I stood there, I felt a trickle of fan-boy-ism drizzle over me. I tried to avoid it, but that made it worse.
Maybe I would have taken more from the meeting if I had just given into it. But I just can’t bring myself to be that much of a penis.
The Weebl’s Stuff stall was easily the least elaborate. On the table there was a laptop with some of their animations playing (I’d never seen Giraffe), a couple of tupperware boxes filled with small badges, some t-shirts and folded A4 paper adorned with hand scrawled prices for the previous two items.
I found this lack of flamboyancy interesting as it would be fair to say that they had the best content there. While Bunny, who I would say had the second best content, stood out as the most ornate. Although this was only really so due to the huge Bunny banner behind their stand.
We then went on and regrouped with my parents at the Apple store on Regents Street. We met up with our lovely family friend Chen, and went for an awesome meal of Dim Sum in china town. We then made our way to Chen’s house, had a cup of tea and a sit down on her huge beanbag; then made our way back home to: chill, apply stickers, talk online, watch family guy, eat pizza and read comics.
