29 Palms/Palm Springs, CA to Alameda, CA
Total Est. Time: 7 hours, 16 minutes Total Est. Distance: 474.77 miles
Being a USMC brat, I wasn't sure what childhood home to use; Palm Springs is where I was born (29 Palms was where we were stationed). After that I lived in Dearborne, MI; El Toro, CA; Salem, OR; Oak Harbor, WA; Renton, WA; Princeton, NJ; and then, as an adult, I fled back to the land of my birth and flitted around the bay area a good bit over 25 years before ending up on Alameda, a reformed military town. Until I came to the bay area I'd never lived anyplace more than 5 years. Remarkably, I still haven't - In the 25+ yrs I've been around the bay I've lived in Oakland, San Francisco, San Lorenzo, Piedmont, Fremont, San Jose, Boulder Creek, and now, Alameda. No wonder I have very little sense of permanence about my life. My mother once told me (ok, at least once every time I bawled about moving -again-) that ours is a mobile society, and no one stays in the same place their whole life anymore. It's certainly been true for me, even more than for the rest of my family. I wonder if that means something? Another therapy issue, perhaps? Hmmm.
