Brain rot advancing at an accelerated rate...
new things I'm watching:
Himitsu no Hanazono (jdrama, at ep 4)
Manga editor and the shoujo artist she is in charge of, who is actually a family of four boys. Hehe. The 2nd oldest, the artist that draws the people, is a hilarious character. Well done, all the characters are interesting (except maybe the main editor girl so far but she has cool clothes so it's ok), and it's fun to watch. The opening sequence is catchy. That collage / video effect seems to be pretty popular lately with the Japanese shows.
Love Contract (twdrama, at ep 6? of ?)
Not that great, but watching because of Ariel Lin. I figured that she's good enough that she wouldn't be in a twdrama that totally sucks. And this one is kind of cute. Except for all the weird judgmental bits. Story about a tomboy kendo team captain and a loner guy (same guy as in DBY below, but much more charming in this one.) I might stop in a bit.
Return of the Condor Heroes 2006 (twdrama?. at ep 13 of 41)
A very entertaining ancient martial arts series. Lots of badly done CG and badly sound-staged-in voices, but it adds to the fun value. Main character is a very likable goofy/clever guy, and the story follows how he learns his mad skillz and his love. Cool fights, many girls that kick butt, and funny old men. Mr. Bear watches this one with me, he thinks it's awesome.
still watching:
Hana Yori Danga 2 (jdrama, at ep 5)
The stylist / costumer must have a ball with this series. Rui gets fairy white outfits all the time, Doumyouji gets sharp black themed outfits, and Doumyouji-mommy gets nice sophisticated jewel-becrusted things as well. I don't know how they get away with putting Makino in so many nice "commoner" outfits. She should be wearing the same thing every few days given what she and her brother are eating for dinner. Anyone notice otoutou's ear piercings in ep. 5? What do they do to keep his voice that way?
things I started watching and finished:
It Started with a Kiss (twdrama, 30 eps)
Cutely done story about an average girl who is trying to keep up with the boy of her dreams. Based on a manga and it's super-shoujo-y. But, taking that and the wimpiness of the girl into account, it's pretty entertaining. Girl is well played as a clumsy well-meaning person (by Ariel Lin), and boy is good at being cold with delicious moments of mischieviousnessosity. I hear there's a
sequel starting in October, yay. Vocabulary words learned: genius (天才)
things I started watching and stopped:
Devil Beside You (twdrama, don't remember where I stopped)
Read that people who liked ISWAK (above) also liked this, so tried it out ... acting nowhere near as good, story not as compelling, characters are boring. The main boy, who could've been interesting (as a scary bad boy) was quickly emasculated in the series. :p I should've known, since Ariel Lin isn't in it! Seems like twdrama fans love this pairing almost as much as the ISWAK pairing, and there's going to be a sequel too. Can't understand why. I guess because she's pretty?
things I stopped watching:
Hanakimi (twdrama, stopped at ep 6? 8?)
Just couldn't stand the girl character anymore. Pretty bad acting and low production levels all around. Bleahhh
