Easter

I went to church for the first time in months today. I didn't have to work until the wee hours so I got enough sleep to feel like going to church wasn't going to be a hardship.

I had planned to go to the Episcopal cathedral in EC, but went to my home church because it was my niece's first communion. It was supposed to happen at Maundy Thursday service, but she got sick Thursday morning (104.5 temp and flu symptoms) so they rescheduled her for today. They gave her a little glazed pottery cup as a keepsake with her first drink of the wine. My denomination didn't do first communions when I was her age, and indeed, not until about 15-20 years ago, after the merger.

However, I got the "hey, you are always welcome to join us at choir on Sundays" from someone who has been pushing my mother to talk me into joining. (This is one reason I don't go to that church...if you display a talent or a skill, they are all over you to join this or that and once you say "yes," you can never say "no" again.) This is not. gonna. happen. I've told mom this, several times. They rehearse on Wednesdays (when I work) and sing on Sundays (after I work until 1 and get home sometime between 1:30 and 3am, depending on if I have to do errands on behalf of Pumbaa at the all-night Stuff Mart) and they are your typical small-church choir. Numerous voices that do different things all at once, with no real director to speak of to moderate them. And I'm no director. So I finally got to politely explain my situation, and thanked the person for the invitation. Hopefully that will be the end of it.

I also like my parents' new pastor. She's the type who I could see as a high-ranking businesswoman doing presentations at massive board meetings. (She was, at one time, a travel agent and tour guide.)

Lunch was nice, at a supper club near Black River Falls that makes a massive buffet for special occasions such as Easter, Mother's Day, and the like. Aunt M and Uncle D (dad's sister) and my brother were there, and my sis and her husband, niece K and nephew J, as well as my parents and me.
