Ended up meeting up with Smiles last Sunday...He wanted to meet a..."friend" of sorts of mine. And seeing as I don't mind indulging those who are curious, I agreed to take him to see him.....And needless to say, it turned out to be an interesting ordeal~~ Then again, it almost always is when Asiddhi is involved...But seriously, I don't think I've ever seen the fire spitter look so dumbfounded as he did when Smiles handed him a cactus...By the way, thanks for that, Smiles...I don't think I've laughed that hard at something in a long time~~ Of course, he got pissed off afterward because of it, since he's a fucking paranoid dumbass of a demon, but that only lead to a conversation between him and Smiles that made him look like an even bigger idiot. So I found myself enjoying the evening quite a bit because of that~~ Though on the plus side, at least Kavi enjoyed his gift...
Also took Kelphead to see Chiyoko-obaa-chan last night...She's the guardian spirit of a park that I often pass through on my way to a cemetery that I frequently visit. I've made a number of friends who "live" there... Some of you might even be familiar with her....or at least, the legend about her..."The old woman in Hirai Park who guides lost children." Yeah, that's her...And yeah, she's real. Kelphead got to find that out for himself a year ago when he wandered into her park during last Obon....I was just making my usual walk through the area at the time when I came across the two of them back then. But ever since that night, whenever I would visit the park to see Obaa-chan, she'd ask about the kid...Apparently she's missed him. So she was really happy when I brought him with me this time....And Kelphead was pretty damn happy for it also.
And to make that night even better, we had the opportunity to see a Hyakki Yakou....While we were at the cemetery, a few of the spirits said one was passing through a few blocks away....I was grateful that I could recall some sutras and had a permanent marker handy to write them on our arms, otherwise we would have missed getting the chance to see it...Well, technically we could've still gone to see it without the sutras, but I wasn't interested in dying in the process...I had heard plenty of stories about it, but until last night, I had never actually seen one before....It's an exciting and also terrifying thing to behold. A lot of dangerous beings take part in it...Hence why the sutras are needed. But a lot of wondrous creatures join in also...I'm not quite sure where all the demons in Tokyo have been hiding all this time, seeing as I'd not come across any in the area until then...Asiddhi doesn't count. He's a transplant from India and estranged from his own kind...But they all apparently decided to show up for this parade...
All of that turned out to be a pleasant end to Obon for me......Though I admit, it's disappointing that I wasn't able to return home to partake in the Obon festivities there also...Didn't get to take part in the Eisa dance...Eh~~ That's another tradition I missed out on by being away from home....What the hell did you guys call the dance here...? The Bon Odori or something...? Well, whatever it's called, it's boring as hell to do...Needs more drum...You're not going to rouse very many spirits with that dullass shit...
[OOC: I have no clue if there's really a Hirai Park, but I was too lazy to go and look for an actual existing park in the Tokyo area. And one that also has a cemetery near it. So I made one up. >>;
And
Hyakki Yakou aka the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons, is a legend about how supernatural beings parade the streets at night during the summer months. But anyone who comes across it will die, unless they're protected by Buddhist sutras. I figured such a thing would be at its height during Obon.]
