I try to stay out of the 'behind the scenes' side of my fandoms, so I'm just going off my suppositions that Thomas Harris is either the biggest misogynist to ever walk the earth, or hated his readers, or hated the producers forcing him to write SOMETHING, the shock value, or all of the above.

It's a sad state of affairs when Hollywood creators, men, always men, hardly known for their sexual politics sensitivity, give us a more feminist ending than a noted author.

My sister loved Manhunter, being a big Miami Vice fan (the circle is complete) but I didn't get any further than a few minutes in before it lost my interest. It definitely needed Anthony Hopkins. After this discussion, I had to rewatch SOTL tonight and marvel again at his performance. It's hard to see true acting these days.

Still my shippy side loves the various things you could explore that would make a straight arrow like Clarice do something like run off with Lecter.

The film did leave hanging thread that a fic writer could weave into something! There's so many tangled motives and impulses for the characters. Do love me some complex people!
