Sorting fun!

Sitting back I admired my work. I had made three piles of artifacts. Firstly, ones that looked harmless - paintings, vases and the like. There was a second, larger, pile of things that looked religious in original - not Christian or Jewish kind of religious though, these has all sorts of odd symbols carved or painted across them. They'd be easy enough to sell to the interested customers, what with the aura of mystery and exoticism about them, but taking the chance of selling something that could attract demons or cause the apocalypse...how many are we up to now?...wasn't something that a respecable businesswoman ought to be doing.

The final pile was the smallest, but by far the most confusing. There didn't seem to be anything plain old ordinary about it...there was a small, but weighty, orb that looked like glass, which stood atop a tiny pillar. Small, nondescript figurines huddled together in an intricately carved wooden tray, each model cocooned in cotton wool. And, of course, no arcane collection would have been complete without a set of blades. These ones looked to decidedly menacing that I didn't dare unpack them from the crate - I liked and used all ten of my fingers too much!

Finally emerging from the store room into the warm glow of the gallery, I wondered how I could get the more dangerous-seeming objects checked out. Hitting the Yellow Pages crossed my mind..."Under what, Arcane Artifacts?" I muttered to myself. I left a quick message on Janine's machine before investigating what to do about them.

"Hi Janine, it's Joyce. I've just had a delivery of some interesting bits and pieces from that old mansion, just outside of town. Some of them look a little dubious, so I'm going to have them checked out by an expert before putting them on display. They're in the back store for the moment, and I haven't added them to the inventory - so, no sales! Of those, at least, we do actually want some sales! Well, see you soon, any probs you know to give me a call. Bye!"

I actually considered looking up the Yellow Pages for a moment, until the obvious answer blazed its way across my mind. "Of course," I said aloud. "I'll give Rupert a call..." I picked up the phone...

As I returned to my desk, I sat with a sigh, and resumed watching the clock.
