And the afternoon drags on...

After the excitement and busy activity of the morning, the quiet afternoon really began to drag. I started thinking that Rupert would never turn up before closing time, then looked at the clock and it was barely two o'clock!

Munching through my forgotten sandwich I watched the second hand march its way slowly around the face of the clock. As it crossed the minute hand and 2pm was achieved I almost jumped up and cheered - who would have thought that the passage of time could be so engrossing!

I tried desperately to think of something to fill in the time - but phoning either the hospital or Buffy weren't options. The hospital clinic would only leave me on hold for ages, only to tell me that my results wouldn't be ready for another few days. If it waas an actual emergency I'm sure that I would have had them back within the hour. Still, I guess the lack of emergency can only be a good thing.

Finishing my sandwich, I stood up to stretch my legs and go for a lap around the room. I popped my head into the store-room as a passed, just to check that the new acquisitions were behaving - all was quiet, but even then who's to say that bringing about armageddon couldn't be done quietly?

As I returned to my desk, I sat with a sigh, and resumed watching the clock.
