Here are a few different examples of what you can do with pretty much the same Color Balance and Channel Mixer settings.

Step 1: This image was already pretty light already so I didn't doing anything in the lightening department but you certainly can. Now duplicate your base and go to Colors > Color Balance and put these values in:
Step 2: Now go to Colors > Components > Channel Mixer and put these values in:
Step 3: Now go to Layers > New Layer and fill it with #22201f and set it to lighten only now merge the layers.
Step 4:
#1: For the first example I showed you create three new fill layers
fill them all with #000d2f set the first two to screen and the third to subtract.
#2: For the second example just leave it at step 3.
#3: For the third example stay at step 3 but this time go back the color
balance and put the same values in.
