Gimp Icon Tutorial #18- Ruby Red In Night Sky

From this:          To this:

Step 1: First start off with your base, crop, sharpen, lighten. What I did for mine was layer duplicate Screen 100% for this particular icon. and I also smoothed the face out with the blur tool. This step is of course optional.
Step 2: Now duplicate your base and go to Colors > Desaturate and set it to Luminosity. The Luminosity setting isn't to different than the other two settings but I think the Luminosity looks best. Leave that layer to normal, but now I your going to duplicate it and set it to burn. Sometimes the burn can be to strong so play with the opacity if you'd like and some images don't need the burn layer.
Step 3: For the red in the image believe it or not I used this texture bellow. Make your to set it to Saturation if you want it red like mine. And move the texture around to where to you want. You can find these textures if you CLICK HERE :

Other icons with similar effect:(I used different textures than the on I used in the example they are all from the same place though so you should have no trouble finding them)
