We were supposed to see 3 plays this weekend (for the 2nd week of Artsfest, free art events all over town) but only ended up doing 1. Oh well, 1 free play is better than zero! Friday was supposed to be Annie, but once I mapquested the theater I realized it was at least an hour drive, during rush hour, and we didn't have any reserved tickets which meant we may or may not get in, so I decided to skip it. Hung out at home while Casey spent several hours at Guitar Center with her friends.
Saturday she had a shift selling Girl Scout cookies in front of an indoor flea market at 10 AM. I had to hang around a bit instead of just dropping her off because we'd picked up our cookie orders a couple of days before that and then got home and discovered they were all wrong. So I helped get the booth set up and everything and then the leader finally went over the orders with me and got me straightened out. After I left there I stopped to fill the car up, got some breakfast and then went home and started preparing some lasagna to put in the crock pot for dinner that night. Realized I was missing an ingredient and had to run to the store for that, and by the time I was done it was time to go pick Casey up again.
We went home just long enough for her to change out of her uniform and then headed out to the Winter Park theater to try and get into a musical called Five Course Love. But I'd only been able to reserve one ticket in advance, and that did me no good since they didn't have any extras for Casey. So I gave them my ticket and told them to give it to someone else and we left. A Goodwill store we used to go to a lot was right across the street (a decent drive from home, but it's a fancy neighborhood so they have good stuff). I ended up with 2 books (Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson for $1 & Obsession by Jonathan Kellerman for $2) and she got a little Tommy Hilfiger purse ($6), some cute sandals ($7), a painting ($6) and 3 CDs ($2 each).
So instead of a free play I got to spend $30 on stuff we didn't need. But oh well, I did get to spend a little quality time with Casey at least. Seems like most of the time we're together her friends are there or she's texting them. But we were talking and singing along with the radio in the car most of the way there and back, so it was nice.
We went home and I cleaned out my car and then took it to my parents' house and traded it for my mom's van. My check engine light is on so she's going to take it in for me when the place opens Monday. Spent a little time talking to them (they just got back from a cruise, the bastards) and then went home and we had that lasagna for dinner (it was okay) and then headed back out for the one play we did actually see,
Shhhh!. It was a close one though... we had extra tickets and were both asking around to see if anyone wanted to come with us. She ended up getting her friend Valerie to come, but we had to pick her up from her dad's shop where she was working. I probably would have said no if I'd realized how far out of the way it was... a trip that should have taken 1/2 hour took an hour by the time we got her and then headed to the theater. They have a policy that you have to show up 1/2 hour before the show or your tickets are given away, which would be 7:30 in this case, and I literally dropped the girls off right at 7:30 before parking and they ran inside and got the tickets. The show was hilarious and so much fun. Very very silly... kind of a cross between Laurel and Hardy and Mr. Bean (that kind of humor, and like in Mr. Bean, they almost never speak), and all 3 of us were laughing constantly. So it was a really nice time. We got home at 11 and passed out right away.
Today I tried my best to be productive since I got nothing done Saturday. I finished the laundry, put away the dishes, paid bills and sorted Girl Scout cookies. Casey wanted to see Brianna's dance performance at downtown Disney so I took her there. I would have just dropped her off, but someone that bought cookies from us works in that area so we decided to meet up for the exchange. Well, little did I know, Downtown Disney was absolutely packed and there was no parking at all. By the time I drove around looking for a space, decided to follow a family that was leaving so I could take theirs, and realized I had picked the wrong family since they had like 3 babies with complicated strollers that had to be folded up, and this family was in no hurry either, even stopping to talk for a few minutes while I cursed at them under my breath, and got over there she was already gone (she left her cell phone at home today of all days). So I called her at work and apologized, and ended up stopping by the hotel she worked at and giving them to her there. So I ended up being gone for an hour and a half when I really wanted to just get in and out because I had a lot to do at home. Oh well. Casey was going to walk around there with her friends after the show and I asked her to try and get a ride home so I didn't have to go back out and get her, but that didn't happen. Turned out the only other kid that went to watch them dance was Alejo so it was just the two of them hanging out, and his dad wouldn't take Casey home, so I had to go get her myself.
So we went home and got changed and ready to go and went to the church for Casey's Rite of Enrollment ceremony. It's the starting point of her journey toward Confirmation (which, as I mentioned before, is a coming of age ceremony for Catholic kids, usually when they are 14 or 15). This was during the regular 5:00 mass... the kids all processed in behind the priest and sat in a designated section (there were so many of them! My guess would be about 100 teens), they all got crosses to wear for the next 3 months, and then at the end of mass the priest talked to them for a bit, asked them some questions and that was that. My parents and I sat with June and Steve (Briana's parents) and Valerie's mom, whose name I don't know, which I feel a tad guilty about because she said "Hi Kelly" as soon as I saw her. After church my parents, Casey and I and Briana and June all went to Applebees for dinner. I tried their new provolone-cheese stuffed meatballs with fettuccine. It was pretty good, except it had red pepper in it and I'm not a fan of spicy. I'd have it again, but only if I could ask them to hold the peppers.
So when we got home Casey had homework and I started watching the Grammys without her. When she was done I went back and showed her the best stuff thus far (Lady Gaga, Beiber/Usher, Cee Lo Green/Gwyneth Paltrow, Bruno Mars) and now we're going to bed, leaving the rest for tomorrow. Night!
