What's Been Happenin'

Monday we went to my parents' house for dinner and my mom cooked burgers and chicken on the grill. We were sent home with cupcakes and apple pie. Num.

Tuesday we trudged back to work and school. Getting up is hard when you've been spoiled with 3 days in a row of sleeping in. Just wait till she starts high school in the fall and she has to BE at school at like 7:15 or something.

My dad had his surgery Tuesday afternoon. It went well and the biopsy results were clean. He could have gone home the next day, but my mom didn't think he was ready, so he went home today. He's doing great, and isn't even taking the pain pills they sent him home with.

I haven't been sleeping well. My dreams are too vivid. The other night I dreamed someone was going to kill me because I was too... yellow? Or something. I kept waking up and thinking they were in the house. And I'd even get up and walk out into the hall so I could listen for noises downstairs, never quite waking up enough to realize it wasn't real. Last night I dreamed Casey was in love with the boy she keeps hanging out with and they were getting way too serious, and I was all concerned about it. Again, kept waking up and thinking it was real. Annoying.

Tonight was the 8th grade awards ceremony, and it was kind of a waste of time for us. Casey got exactly one award, for perfect attendance. So, she showed up. Good for her. It bugged both of us, because she's a really good student. Practically gets straight As even though some of her classes are 2 and 3 grade levels above hers, the teachers love her, she never get in trouble. And yet when it comes to the more objective awards (most improved, citizen award, top student, etc) she's overlooked every year by every teacher. They even gave out awards for the student assistants, and she said she works 100X harder than any of the other assistants. Oh well. On the plus side, she actually wore a dress. She wasn't going to, even though she knew all the other girls would. She brought a pair of slacks and a slightly dressy top with her to school to change into later, but her friend Taylor was like "Oh no. You are NOT wearing that." So she took her home, gave her a dress, sprinkled glitter on her shoulders, fixed her hair up, and viola! She looked very pretty, and the best part? The converse high top sneakers she wore with the dress. I guess Taylor didn't have any shoes that fit her. But it looked cute and she got a lot of compliments. And it's just a very Casey thing to do. Bri's mom took several pictures, and they had a professional camera set up for the kids to do fun photo sessions after the ceremony, so I'm sure I'll have pics to post sometime soon.

P.S. Just noticed that 9 out of my 15 icons are from shows that are no longer on the air (but, seriously... how could they cancel HEROES?). Hm... maybe I need an update...
