It's been nice to have 3 days off in a row (and I even got to sleep in on all of them!). The downside is being in my house too much, which contains many Girl Scout cookies and lots of Valentines candy. There's a reason I don't keep this stuff in the house on a regular basis. I eat it all! (typed as I munch on the Ed Hardy candy popcorn my parents gave me for Vday. Num)
So, what have we been up to? I already posted that we saw Percy Jackson and the Changing of the Book Friday. Saturday Casey spent a good bit of time at Brandon's house while I puttered around at home, working on laundry, etc. We visited my brother for hair cuts that afternoon, and that evening we had a fancy Chic-Fil-A dinner with Renee, Beth, Jean and Nikki. Renee and Jean had ordered cookies from Casey, so this was a way to get those to them (they live pretty far from us, so we met in between) and also catch up. It was really good to see my girls, and Casey and Nikki had a good time together... they went to the Barnes and Noble next door to hang out while we grown ups chatted. Casey found Brandon a Valentines Day gift while they were there (he'd given her some candy, a little stuffed animal and an "I love our friendship" card and she wanted to get him something in return) - a book called "Don't Try This at Home", which lists stupid things you shouldn't do (or should you?) because she said he loves to do stupid things. Well, yeah. He's a 14 year old boy. So. Duh.
So after dinner I let her go back to his house until around 11 and then brought her home and sent her to bed.
Sunday she altar served at 10:30 mass, and then we had a very nice lunch with my parents at Logan's Roadhouse. My mom suggested to my dad that instead of going out for a nice Vday dinner when all the restaurants would be packed, the 4 of us should just go somewhere nice after church (we always go out to eat after church, but usually to Dennys or something). That worked for me because I obviously didn't have a date for Valentines Day, and even if I wanted to force Casey to be my date I have no money to go anywhere decent (my parents always pay when we go out to eat with them).
As for Vday gifts, my mom had taken Casey shopping Saturday and she came home and handed me a flower, a peanut butter/chocolate heart and an unsigned card ("Why am I even giving you a present for Valentines Day? I'm 13!" "Because I don't have a Valentine. You're my only hope!") and I gave her some candy, a Hoops & Yo Yo card (I shouldn't have though. That mofo cost $7!!!) and a little pink stuffed frog that sings "I Like To Move It Move It", which I thought was hilariously random. And my parents gave us both candy and I also got the aforementioned popcorn.
After lunch Casey went back to Brandon's (Jeez. But she says it's because he doesn't go to her school so she wants to see him as much as she can on weekends, and he's her best male friend and bla bla bla. I'm just glad he actually has school today while she's off!) and I went home and continued with laundry, paid some bills and got groceries. And then I picked her up and we went to the church for a meeting about the National Catholic Youth Conference, which she will be attending in November 2011 in Indianapolis. They have them every 2 years and although the cost of the trip is around $900 a kid, our church fundraises 100% so the parents don't have to pay a dime. The only thing we DO have to do is work for 2 years to raise the money. So Casey and I will be busy asking for donations, selling ads in the bulletin, working at fundraising events, etc. until the time comes. But the trip is worth it... I went as a kid and it was pretty amazing. It's a huge gathering of Catholic teens from around the country (they just got back from the latest one and there were 23,000 kids there) for prayer, concerts, talks, etc. It's only for high school students, so Casey should be able to go twice, in 10th and 12th grade.
While we were there some kids were talking about how much fun the summer mission trips are as well,so now she has changed her mind yet again and wants to go to the one this summer, which will be in Tennessee. The kids will spend a few days there fixing up underprivileged people's homes. Or something. Now that she wants to go I need to look into it a bit more and sign her up.
And today we're both off for the holiday. I spent the morning finishing up the house cleaning and Casey is working on organizing and cleaning out her room (I didn't even tell her to, she was just in the mood to clean, which is extremely rare) and wants to re-arrange her furniture when she's done. And I'm relaxing. Well, as much as I can relax when every time I turn around the dryer is buzzing or the dog needs to pee or Casey is hungry. Speaking of which, I have one more load of laundry that's ready to be put away, Willow is whining at the door, and Casey just took some shelves out of her closet and I have to find somewhere to put them, so...
