Buseh Weekend

Nov 08, 2009 16:49

There was a shooting in downtown Orlando yesterday. A guy that was laid off 2 years ago went back and shot up his old office building. He killed one person and injured several others. Crazy. I called my mom when I heard it was going on because she works at City Hall, but I'd actually forgotten that Casey was on a field trip at the Science Center (same area) at that time as well. I'm glad I forgot or I would have freaked out. She told me later they'd had to cut the trip a little short and head back to the school because of it. Anyway, my prayers go out to the person that was killed and their families, and even to the guy who did the shooting, because my god, what kind of a bad place do you have to be in to do something like that?

Anyway, the weekend...

Friday Casey went to a talent show at her school. I chilled at home and just picked her up later.

Saturday - we got up around 6:30 and hauled a bunch of stuff to my aunt's yard sale. She has a pretty big yard, so there were about 5 of us with our own little sections there, kind of like a mini flea market. We did so-so. I told Casey she could keep the money from her clothes (neither of us bought them in the first place, my mom always buys her clothes, so it really came down to the work put into getting ready for the sale and she's the one who cleaned out her closet) and she walked away with around $80. Not bad, but she still has a lot of clothes left. She seems to outgrow everything in her closet on a monthly basis. I made about $20 on the rest of the stuff, which was spent before I even got home that day. So yeah, kind of a waste of time for me, but not really because I got to hang out with my family and it was a beautiful day. I have, however, decided not to participate in my neighborhood's sale next weekend. They are charging $15 (not sure why, I'd be having it at my own house) and I can't guarantee I'd even make that much back, plus it's kind of a pain in the ass. So everything that's left is going to Goodwill.

We had to leave the sale at around 1:45 to head over to the animal shelter for our volunteer shift. It was good, except one dog did get a little too rough and kind of scare me. She was just playing, but she went a little far. I was running around with her and she got all excited and started biting me. A couple of times she got a mouthful of my jeans and started pulling on them. I'm amazed they didn't get torn. I didn't get hurt either, but it was kind of scary and she wouldn't stop. But then another volunteer said that when they get like that, if you put the leash on them they usually calm down. So I took the leash from around my neck (we all wear them like that for convenience since we're always using them) and said "Hey Brandy, do you wanna go for a walk?" and she stopped right away and went back to being a sweetheart. The other volunteer put a note in the book to be careful about running with her (they have a binder with a page for each dog, so you can make notes for other volunteers and staff). The funny thing is, this first and only time a dog has gotten a little aggressive with me, it was one of the few dogs there that isn't at least part pit bill. She's a shar pei mix, actually. A big one... around the size of the average german shepard. But yeah, that whole pit bull thing is such BS. Yes they are very strong, solid dogs, but if they aren't raised to be killers they can be the sweetest things ever.

After our shift Casey was supposed to go sell candy at a girl scout booth, but they ran out of product so she lucked out. Instead she wanted to go shopping at Goodwill. We ended up spending almost 2 hours there. She got a bunch of clothes and spent $25 of the money she'd made at the yard sale, and I got some shorts, capris, 2 glasses and a frame for my college degree (I have 2... one was already hanging up and I'd been meaning to get a frame to hang the other one under it), all for $9. Not bad.

After the yard sale, 3 hours of wrestling large dogs and shopping I was totally beat and not remotely interested in cooking dinner, so we drove through an A&W and got home around 8 PM.

Today we went to church with my parents, but due to the Toddler From Hell sitting in front of us, I wasn't able to concentrate on anything that was said. I get it... being a mom is hard (I think she was single too, and of course I can relate), but really. Don't subject everyone around you to your child's constant screaming. Jeez.

We went to eat at Cracker Barrel afterwards, and then Casey and I went to Target, where I went to get groceries while she looked for a birthday present and card for a birthday party. Ran home, wrapped the gift while she got ready, and then took her to the party and went back home to work on laundry, bills, dishes, etc.

I'm so done! What a tiring weekend. Time to surf the net and watch TV while enjoying the quiet house (Casey won't be home for a couple more hours, wee).
