I felt like shit yesterday and spent most of the day in bed. Like I said in my tweets, we did volunteer at the Orlando Repretory theater for a couple of hours, which was fine except that the show was sold out so we didn't get to see it. So that was disappointing. I even considered buying tickets to another time, but they were all sold out. Apparently it's very rare for the volunteers not to get in. We're doing Holes next month. Fingers crossed! But the fun part was, we worked the concession stand with Kelly. She and I worked together at our very first job at Universal when we were 17, as cashiers in one of the restaurants and at the food carts. So there we were, almost 20 years later, selling food again!
Speaking of volunteering, good news and bad news...
Bad news - Give Kids the World has changed their policy, and now kids under 16 years old can't do anything but serve food. Casey isn't terribly interested in doing that, she likes to be in the parades and play with the kids and help with the shows. I don't know why they changed the rules... she and Danielle were always a great help and never caused any trouble. Maybe some of the other young volunteers caused some issues. Who knows? So she said she'd be willing to serve food if that's the only way we can get out there, so I guess we'll do that soon. SIGH, boring.
Good news - I looked into volunteering at the SPCA (we are both big animal lovers, and she wants to have a career involving them someday) and found a program where a child and their parent can volunteer to play with the dogs, brush them and help people adopt them. That's pretty much perfect. You have to commit to 3 hours a week for 12 weeks, but we'd both love it. They only allow a very limited number of people to do it though, so I don't know if we'll get in. We'll fill out the applications for the summer and then just try for fall if that fills up too quickly.
Anyway, back to Sunday. When we got home from volunteering we both went to bed. I was still suffering from a headache, stomach ache and the cycle that wouldn't quit (today makes day 11 and still no end in sight... I made a doctor appointment today, but it's not for 2 more weeks. I'll try and accelerate it if this doesn't let up in a day or two... I just made it for a checkup because I'm overdue for that anyway) and she was crashing from her sugar fueled sleepover (did I mention the stop at the candy store on the way out of Universal, during which her sleepover host purchased sugar, sugar and also some sugar?). We got up a couple of hours later and headed to church, then I dropped her off at home and went to grab a few groceries (didn't have the time or energy to do a big shopping run... that's happening tomorrow) and then we met my parents for dinner at Texas Roadhouse. I felt much better then... not sure if it was the nap, the Tylenol or getting a good meal in me, but I've been okay ever since.
We went home and watched 3 Angel episodes before crashing again, for the night. Speaking of Angel, the guy who played Lorne just died at age 33, of heart disease. How sad.
Today was work, which was... work. Not nearly as busy as it needs to be, which makes me nervous. People really need to start booking special events so I can invoice them. Like yesterday. Came home and tried to accomplish the things I didn't when I was ill and/or running around theme parks over the weekend. Still got to finish the laundry and get groceries. But for now, it's WAY past my bed time...
