10 Things That Have Happened To Me Meme

I came across this one in solomother.com.

10 things that have happened to me:

1. Moving a lot. I was a military brat and so, from birth to adulthood, I moved every few years. Born in Germany, I have since lived in:

Cocoa Beach, FL
Henderson, NV
Las Vegas, NV
Panama City, FL
England
Orlando, FL

I went to 4 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, and 2 high schools. I have lived in about 15 different houses/apartments. I always liked the fact that I got a clean slate everywhere I went. I could be a nerd at one school and then popular at another. And I got to see the world. When we lived in England, we took that chance to visit Italy, Scotland, Germany (which I didn't remember, having moved away at 10 months old)... seems like there was more... I can't remember. I was too young to appreciate it, but I'm still grateful for the opportunity.

2. I spent a year being tormented by a bully and all her friends. In 7th grade, there was this misunderstanding between me and a girl named Danielle. I had said something perfectly innocent to a mutual friend, and that (so-called) friend had relayed it to Danielle in an entirely inaccurate way. From that moment on, Danielle decided her goal in life was to make me miserable. And she was popular enough that this turned me into the school target. I went home crying every day. This was one of those times that moving away that summer was a good thing.

3. I accidentally learned to type. When I was in middle school, I signed up for a class called Keyboarding. I thought it was a music class. Turns out I was mistaken. That was one of the best mistakes I ever made. Today I pay my bills with a job that I never would have gotten if I didn't know how to type.

4. Participating in Drama during my last two years of high school was one of the best times of my life. I was in One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, Dracula, To Kill A Mockingbird, and Up the Down Staircase.

5. I was an extra on the Mickey Mouse club twice. My drama coach sent us. One time we were the background at a local school while the kids filmed their scenes. And then once we taped an episode at Mannequin's in Pleasure Island. We danced to the same song over and over (We Got A Love Thang). We did not get paid, but it was fun. My drama coach also sent some of us to audition for the Nickelodeon show Fifteen. I made it through about 4 cuts before getting rejected, so I came close. I later dated one of the boys who got on the show. Go me. LOL

6. I may have been on a very short-lived Tony Danza show. Actually, it might have been a pilot that wasn't picked up because I don't remember the show ever being on the air. It would feature people who were overcoming great struggles in their lives. This girl who I was doing a play with in high school was going to be featured on the show. She was homeless (none of us knew this until they started taping the show), and they were getting footage of her family in their daily lives. So they would come and tape our rehearsals and get footage of her getting ready to go onstage and stuff. I remember being amused when they asked if she was nervous on opening night and she said "No" and they were like "Uh... could you say you're nervous?" LOL. I didn't actually meet Tony, though.

7. I was stalked for about 6 months. I dated this guy Alex for about 4 months during my first semester of college. He was odd in numerous ways, one of them being that he was really possessive. When I broke up with him he lost his mind. Threatened suicide constantly, told me we belonged together and that no matter what I said, I loved him and we'd be married within 5 years, waited for me outside my classes, actually sat IN on some of my classes without my knowing it, called my friends to ask them why I would do this to him, went over to my parents' house (where I lived) one day and spent hours talking to them about me until I got home. I was thisclose to getting a restraining order filed when I started dating someone new and this seemed to make Alex go away.

8. When I was working at the Kongfrontation ride at Universal, Ron Howard was on my tram. I got to ACT for RON HOWARD. And I'm still an admin assistant, so yeah it went well. LOL

9. I directed a retreat. Several years ago I saw an ad in my church bulletin about a retreat for young catholic adults. I figured what the hell and went. It was great. It was a weekend long experience called Crossroads where we heard people give talks about specific topics and discussed our own experiences and feelings in small groups. It was about exploring your relationships... with God, with yourself, and with others. I enjoyed it so much, I came back one year as a presenter. I gave several talks on the struggles I had gone through in life and lead my own small group. It was extremely therapeutic. And then, 3 years ago I was invited to direct one of them. This meant running the whole thing, from recruiting your team to having weekly preparation meetings, getting a cook and going over the meals, planning everything down to the last detail, helping the presenters with their speeches, etc. It was a lot of work, but it was a great experience and I made a lot of friends as a result. Mike was Co-Director on the retreat I presented at, which is how I met him. He was my advisor on the one I directed. So I'm thankful for the friendship I have with him that came from that experience.

10. Casey happened, of course. It was the scariest thing in the world to discover I was pregnant with her, and sometimes being her mother is the hardest thing the world, but I wouldn't trade it for anything, because most of the time, it's amazing and enlightening and it lights up my world.
