Not a Great Start

Jul 01, 2006 12:00

Okay, it's been a pretty annoying day so far.

I'll start my day with just after midnight, because that is today, so there. So I got in bed at 12:30 or so last night and then just before I turn off the light, I see a roach scurry across my room. And then it just goes and kind of hangs out in the corner and gives me the finger. So I go and get the can of Raid out of the bathroom cabinet (freckles40, I KNOW I KNOW.. hairspray works better. But if we even OWN any it would be downstairs and I didn't want to disturb Casey or Willow). And... it's empty. It farts out this teeny bit that might have been enough to piss the roach off, but that's about it. So I go back to the hall closet and start looking for something. I think I ended up grabbing some body spray... because I figured it was a girl roach and she'd appreciate smelling nice and then go away. I go back to my room and guess what? GONE. EEK. I hate when bugs disappear like that. I never found it. I have been paranoid ever since. I kept feeling like a bug was crawling on my face while I slept last night because I had the heebie jeebies.

So today I put out new roach baits. I can tell how effective those things are because I will put them out and see no bugs at all for the longest time. And then the roaches tell me when the baits need to be replaced because they start making appearances. Anyway, putting out roach baits is a big challenge for me because my dog is obsessed with them. Whatever it is that attracts the bugs also attracts her. They are her crack. So I have to be creative and find places to put them where she can't get them but the bugs can. Even then, she took 2 of them today and I had to chase her down and get them back. And if I put it somewhere she can't get it but can still smell it, she will lie down and cry and cry forEVER. Because she thinks I'll give in and just let her have the poison eventually.

Okay, so that's the bug thing. That was 12:30. Not finding the roach, my paranoid ass went to sleep. About 2 AM, I wake up to hear the dog yelping from her crate downstairs.

Wait, a little sidebar about the crate. For my new LJ friends... I used to think crates were mean, and maybe some of you do too, so I want to explain. For one thing, she likes it. It's like her bedroom. If I even say the C word she's in there in half a second. And if I stay up later than usual, sometimes she just goes in there and goes to sleep. So I know she's comfortable there. I keep her there when we aren't home and when we're sleeping for a couple of reasons. Mainly, she's nuts. She's a jack russell, and if you know about them you know what I mean. She lives for stealing and tearing things up. She thinks it's always play time. I've tried taking naps with her in the room, and it's impossible because I get jumped on, licked and nipped at. She also has some house training issues. We adopted her from a shelter at 2 years old. For the most part, she will let me know when she needs to go out. But every once in a while for no apparent reason, she will just do her business in the house. Without even trying to get me to take her out. And she has peed on my bed THREE TIMES. I am pretty sure she does it out of spite. Again, she doesn't ask to go out or anything... just jumps up there, squats, then looks at me like "What are you gonna do now, BITCH?" So yeah, she doesn't get to sleep with us.

Lately she's been peeing in her crate constantly. She didn't used to, and I'm kind of at a loss. I have been washing the hell out of some blankets. I have recently decided the best solution is to get her a bigger crate (which I can't afford, but I'll figure it out) and keep newspaper in one corner and her blanket in the other. I would like to think she'll know which one to use.

Okay, back to last night. So I hear her whining loudly at 2 AM and go downstairs to find that she has peed AND pooped in her crate and the entire downstairs smells horrible. So I clean it up, take her out and spray some Febreeze and go back to bed.

I get up this morning... and she's puked in there now. Why the fuck did I get a dog? Okay, I love her. But days like this make me want to give her back to the damn shelter. No wonder I am at least her 3rd family. She literally did just keep getting returned. I wouldn't do that to her, though. We've had her for almost 2 years now, and she is family.

Okay, so roaches and dogs. Done. Next item. We were supposed to go skating this morning. I mentioned before that there was a session from 10-12 that was only for younger kids, usually wasn't crowded and was really really cheap (something like $5 for both of us). Okay, so I thought about double checking the website or calling to make sure the schedule was still the same, since it had been a while. I don't know why I didn't. But after dragging my tired butt and Casey's tired butt out of bed and driving 20 minutes, we discover 2 cars in the parking lot. I was like "Something is wrong". We go inside to find that yes, the schedule has been changed. They now have 11 AM lessons (which Casey has no interest in) and then a 12-5 session. Well, here's the thing. That session is certain to be packed, considering it's pretty much the only one on a Saturday. AND it's $7 for each of us to skate, plus an extra dollar for the roller blades Casey would want and $3 for the playground she wants to go on. Uh uh.

So she wants to go back. If we did, I wouldn't skate and she wouldn't get to do the playground (I think it's ridiculous that a skating rink even HAS a playground anyway... hello, you have to keep taking your skates off. Pain in the ass). I just told her we have time for either that, swimming or a movie. She's decided she wants to see the movie Click. Sounds good to me. But kinda expensive too. I do have some free movie passes that are expired. I'll try to use them anyway. Or at least there's my Universal discount.

So there's my day so far. Lots of issues. Hopefully it gets better. I did have a chance to take a nice shower and get some laundry going.

Last night I took Casey to Steak N Shake for a very yummy dinner. And then we went home and had a laugh night, watching one funny show after the other - America's Funniest Home Videos, Planet's Funniest Animals, 2 eps of Will and Grace and OH the last half of Superstar, which we LOVE. We have Superstar on video tape too. People tell me I look like Molly Shannon, and I have NO idea how to take that. But she's so funny. I really want Casey to see her guest appearances on Will and Grace because they are AWESOME. As for AMV and PFA... I sent video tapes of Willow to both of them and as far as I know, nothing. She is a pain in the ass, but she is also extremely funny (and learns tricks like immediately). She does just about all that crazy stuff you see on those shows. Maybe someday I'll be surprised and get $100 in the mail from Animal Planet (for airing the clip). AFV doesn't pay you and I don't think they even TELL you if they are going to show your tape. And the WORST clips always win. WTF? And hey, where the hell was Best Week Ever last night? Because I look forward to that every Friday and I was so pissed when I flipped to VH1 and discovered Hogan's fucking Heros. Sadness.

OH. Casey's gymnastics camp had an A/C problem on Friday. She said they were still doing gymnastics and it was like 85 degrees in there. My mom picked her up because I wanted to work a little late to make up some time, and she got her to take a shower because she was all sweaty. But she didn't have any underwear for her. So when we got home later, I told her she should probably go up and put some on. And she says "No, I don't want to. It feels good." AAAAA! 10 years old and already wants to not wear underwear. Well, at least she's wearing some today. EEK.
