That's My Girl

There is HUGE brush fire in Central Florida that has been going on since yesterday. It sucks, but I didn't think much of it because it wasn't really near us. So then today I hear on the radio that roads in the Sea World area are being closed because of it. I live RIGHT down the street from Sea World. HOLY CRAP. I had better keep my eye on the news.

As predicted, Casey was in a great mood when I brought her dinner at gymnastics today. All is well with us... for now. She did broach the parade subject, which I was dreading because I was afraid it would cause yet another fight. But she didn't really push it. I think she knew I wasn't going to change my mind. She did try to bribe me. Seriously, she was like "What if I give you $10?" Hah. But she didn't really get that upset over it. She just moved on.

We were talking about her after school care, and she was telling me that the lady who runs it yells at her daughter a lot, and even curses at her and sometimes smacks her. According to Casey, she only does it to her own daughter and not to the other kids. Still, Casey shouldn't have to see that. She hugged me and said she was SO glad I'm her mommy. Uh... yeah. Total turn around from this morning. But yeah, I asked her if she was sure she wanted to come back next year, and she thought about it but ultimately said she does. There really aren't a ton of options around here, and despite the abusive behavior toward her own daughter, I know Mrs. Rennie adores Casey and as far as I know, has never even yelled at her. So I guess I'll just let her stay. Yeesh.

Casey got her FCAT scores back, and she was absolutely glowing with pride. The highest score is a 6.0. Casey got.... a 6.0. Apparently, she was the only 4th grader to get such a high score. She missed 3 on the whole test, which for an achievement test is pretty amazing. Yay Casey!

Well, in another effort to show how much Casey's Girl Scout leader sucks, we got a message today that the Limited Too trip for Wednesday has been cancelled. I guess I should be glad since it was the one that was at 4 PM, but I know Casey was looking forward to going. And I had been considering still taking her to Gators (uh oh... here I go) if she behaved REALLY well between now and then. Well, fate is making me stick to my punishments, I supposed, because she has her usual Tuesday meeting now.

Gotta go watch the rest of her gymnastics class...
