I just finished "Paul is Undead" by Alan Goldsher and it was SO AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D I have been looking forward to reading this since I heard about it last year, and it was so worth the wait!!! :D
Normally I don't get into zombie books, but this one was really funny and well done!!! :D It even surprisingly got most of The Beatles story accurate, just with a zombie twist. ;) LOL As I read it I kept noticing the similarites to what really happened and it just made this even funny!!! :D There are some really great one-liners and funny stories!!! :D I cracked up so much learning how George was turned to a zombie, all the crazy fights with zombie hunter Mick Jagger and explaning Mick's dancing, the fights with Yoko, Ringo's inatiation into the band and litterly cutting Paul and John's pants off with his ninja stars while George was hysterically laughing on the bench, John's piano playing during "I'm Down" at Shea Stadium being explanied in a horrifyingly funny way, how no one could understand Bob Dylan at all, Elvis' refusal to believe zombies were real, how drugs changed zombies' skin color, George's homemade instruments, and SO,SO much more!!! :D There are some really funny drawlings in the book too. ;) It was very comical and such a great read!!! :D
The book is done sort of like the Anthology and it's a series of interviews put together to tell the story. I REALLY like this format and as I was reading I swear I kept hearing John, Paul, George, Ringo, and others' voices during their parts!!! :D Alan did a great job writing how they talked. ;)
The mythology behind the zombies are even explanied and I totally bought it and it reminds me of something I would have saw on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", so I was into it!!! :D Zombies weren't the only sci-fi/horror creatures. ;) There are TONS other creatures mentioned and some very surprising things that happened to Stu and Brian. :)
This is where some spoilers come in about what happened to certian characters, so read if you only want to know. ;)
I really liked the twist with Stuart Sutcliff becoming a vampire!!! :D And how much he still loves and misses Astrid. <3 In the book, Stu had to pretend he died cuz he had people after him, so Astrid had to go along with this. ;) Stu and Astrid were able to reunite for a few weeks every year, but Stu was also sad cuz he knew Astrid would die soon since she was mortal and he'd miss her even more. :( It seemed like Stu kept in contact with John and eventually Paul and George too. :D
Then Brain did die in this verison too, but John made him a zombie years after in died in the 70s, but it didn't work all the way and Brian became paralyzied. :( So John got him a house in Scotland and told Brain he'd pay for everything for him and take care of him for the rest of time!!! :D Paul, George, and Ringo also now spend time with him and until the book had to keep Brain's being a zombie quiet too. ;) I really liked they they all were taking care of Brian now!!! :D Showed that even as zombies they do still care!!! <3
That being said, I was sad that the other wives didn't show up besides Yoko. I guess it makes sense storyline wise and zombies can't have kids, but I do think Pattie and Linda were hinted too. During the part about filming "AHDN", there was a bit about George having a fling with a girl on set. ;) And later when it talked about John finding Yoko, it mentioned Paul finding love too and later that he did have his solo carrer and Wings. :D Also, it didn't really go too much into The Beatles' solo years, but said that it would fill up another book. LOL ;) So that actually makes me think that maybe George too did find Olivia, and more than likely she's a zombie too just as I think Linda and Paul are. LOL ;) I guess it's for our interperation. ;)
I also really like how the book ended with a 2010 reunion tour and how happy the boys were to be back together, playing music together, and litterly take over the world again!!! LOL ;) Time to finally reach the "Toppermost of the Poppermost"!!! :D LOL
Then a LOT of other people pop up in this book as zombies, vampires, maybe wizzards, ninjas, and ghosts. ;) You'll be surprised how many famous people connected and not connected to The Beatles are "interviewed" for the book. :D
Also, there is a movie in the works for this film. It supposed to be like the Anthology and have clips and everything. Only the music is still the same. ;)
I TOTALLY recommened this to Beatles fans and even non-Beatles fans!!! :D This book was just hilarious and totally now one of my favorites!!! :D
