Thinking that someone’s your soulmate, that they’re supposed to just intuitively "get you”, having all these romantic expectations for someone else, that they’re the one who’s supposed to understand you and fulfill all your needs, is one thing that will doom relationships because then you don’t work at it

Sometimes I think there is that one special person I'm supposed to be with, and he's looking for me, too. And he's the best person for me and we're meant to be together.
But the rest of the time, I think it's all bullshit and relationships are a waste of my time. :-)

I can believe that there are a number of people who fit well enough. The problem I have is if it's implied in the term "soulmate" that there's only one person out there for you, who fits perfectly. So I guess it's like the difference between the lock-and-key theory vs. induced fit for enzyme-substrate specificity.
It comes down to my lack of faith in some master-plan unfolding.
