Thinking that someone’s your soulmate, that they’re supposed to just intuitively "get you”, having all these romantic expectations for someone else, that they’re the one who’s supposed to understand you and fulfill all your needs, is one thing that will doom relationships because then you don’t work at it.

I don’t think there are soulmates. And I don’t think that‘s just another example of me being unnecessarily concrete and un-romantic. It’s one of the most ridiculous things I’ve heard. That there’s this one person you just happened to bump into in a club when you were 22 or that grew up a zipcode over in your same hometown. Out of 6 billion people, they’re your kindred spirit, this one person was meant for you and you were guided to them by some unseen divine matchmaker fiddling with the dating pages.
