Brush Up Buffalo, a not-for-profit, all-volunteer organization focused on revitalizing City of Buffalo neighborhoods, is in need of at least 200 more volunteers for its annual event on Saturday, June 27.
Brush Up Buffalo rescheduled its original event date - June 20th - due to heavy rain. The postponement, unfortunately resulted in a loss of more than half its volunteer base for June 27th, and more volunteers are needed to ensure that the organization can repaint 18 homes in the University District. All properties were previously powerwashed before the event to loosen paint chips, so the homeowners now need a fresh coat of paint more than ever.
Registration takes one minute to complete online by clicking on the "Volunteers" tab at www.brushupbuffalo.org. Painters must be 18 years of age or older. Volunteers are asked to meet at the University at Buffalo South Campus Diefendorf Lot beginning at 8AM on June 27th.
In addition to the satisfaction of helping fellow Buffalonians, each volunteer will receive a T-shirt, work supplies if needed, breakfast, round-trip shuttling between the University at Buffalo South Campus and the nearby houses, beverages on site and lunch. No painting experience is necessary to participate. Union painters will be at each house to provide assistance. Most volunteers are finished with painting and lunch by 1PM.
This year's event takes place in the University District along streets directly south of the University at Buffalo South Campus. Since the organization's inception in 1996, volunteers have "brushed up" nearly 250 homes for low-income, single-family, owner-occupied homeowners.
