Actually we're working on getting the laws changed so as to permit hens like other pets (though with some restrictions). Been assembling chicken laws from around the country and going over what would be a reasonable proposal. Heard that there's already some folks on the common council interested, it just has never been brought up.
If that works out we'll be setting up a hen club to do education and inspection classes.
Roosters are going to be right out of the question, there isn't a city that allows them due to noise. As a result, meat production isn't going to be encouraged, but we're aiming to get culling permitted for the promotion of healthy flocks.
If you would be interested in helping, we'll probably try and get together pretty soon to go over the research and plot the presentation to the city out. Probably meet over at Nickle City or something.

Really there's no good reason why we shouldn't be allowed to keep hens.
that would be pretty sweet. i want to get them in a couple of years...not this year, maybe possibly next summer, but more likely the summer after. once everything is settled.
