Protecting the little guy

I know that a lot of you, like me, are in support of small businesses, especially in our area. As most of you know Paterson has proposed a legislation to allow grocery stores (and other stores that carry beer) to carry liquor. This is such a bad idea for so many reasons, the main one being that it will put a ton of locally owned liquor stores out of business, and allowing places like Walmart to grow even larger.

I was in a store buying some wine the other day and was talking to them about this. I was directed to a website that allows you to sign a petition to keep wine (and likely eventually other liquors) out of grocery stores and in the liquor stores where they belong.

I don't see how Paterson thinks this idea would be a good thing as it will put a lot more of people out of jobs and make alcohol easier for kids to get their hands on. There is a nice write up about how this proposal will hurt the local economy.

Here is the website for those who are interested: lastmainstreetstore.com *link opens in a new window for your convenience.

Here's hoping this is a fight that the underdogs can win. It won't pass with our support!

ETA: You know what, I was posting this to be helpful for those people who are against this proposed legislation. Nothing more, nothing less. Kthnxbye.
