energy costs

This has absolutely nothing to do with Buffalo, cept that maybe you guys might know.

In an attempt to keep my electric bill as low as possible, I unplug absolutely everything I'm not using. This means things like the microwave, the toaster, the hair dryer, cell phone charger, TV and DVD player, lamps and anything else electric in my place gets unplugged when I'm not using them. I use my phone as my alarm clock. Basically, the only thing that stays consistently plugged in is the fridge, for obvious reasons....it's a relatively new fridge, and it's not very large, so it doesn't use a lot of energy to begin with. I only charge my laptop when it's getting ready to die.
To me, this seems like nothing. I've been doing it since I started living alone, and  I've been lead to believe it cuts down on energy costs significantly. Last month my electric bill was 19.95, and I have electric heat. (I usually throw on extra blankets if I'm freezing, and living upstairs from people who seem to like the idea of a 90 degree place means I don't need it on much.)

Some people say I'm kinda quirky and I'd have to agree with them, but I just can't see the point in having things plugged in if they're not in use. I had a friend come over in the evening the other night and as I was using the light of my cell phone to find the plug for my lamp ( I have no overhead light in my living room) I realized that he thought I was nuts.

So, do you think it's really cutting the cost of my electric? Is this something you guys do on your own?

Thanks.
