Right, the first term of my second year at UEA is now over, so here's a summary for y'all. Firstly, the minus points, which I shall address briefly:
1) Work - I have, once again, failed to do any. Well, I've done some - in fact, I'm probably looking at a decent 2:1 in the unit for which I've actually completed the essays. Whether this means I will never be able to apply myself, I do not know, but given that this year's work actually does matter, the signs do not look good.
2) Squandering of huge amounts of money - I've earned over £800 from The 'Hut this term, none of which I needed, and how much do I have now? £150. How remarkably foolish of me that was. Ah well, maybe I'll save some next term (I seem to be vey reluctant to use the word 'semester', for some reason).
3) Everyone *else's* relationships - All of my friends who were in relationships at the start of term (with the exception of Hannah and Rob) are now in a different one, or none at all. I have excluded Tom and Jeni from this, because I'm as confused about the dates as anyone, frankly. Lord knows how this has come about all in one go, but I blame the second year, somehow. Should this trend continue then, well it hardly bears thinking about.
4) MY, ahem, issues - Well, at least I have the faculties to deal with such things now. The gibbering wreck of a man that I inhabited when I arrived in Norwich 19 weeks ago seems to have disappeared for now. The problems I was having with my dear Jane really were quite debilitating, more so than any others that I've encountered, but they seem to have been dealt with, if not resolved. Put aside, rather than put behind me. Josie was proof positive of my newfound ability to cope with the absence of affection from the right sources, but it's still a tick in the wrong box, as it were.
5) I have not seen enough of - Tom, Hannah, Kenny, Milly, Becky, Karan, Kat, Liz or Nicki.
Now, onto better things:
1) Sports - I have played all the cricket and baseball that I can handle. Strangely, I think my cricket (which I've been playing since I was 5) has improved more than my baseball (which I've been playing since september). I'm enjoying my cricket as much as I ever have. Also, a little bird tells me that there is a Ziggurat touch rugby event in february, which enthuses me more than you could possibly imagine. A chance to display my ball-handling skills, and see if they're still intact.
2) A drastically improved sense of self-esteem - no need to expound that, really.
3) All my wonderful friends - They say your first year is the time to make all your friends, and I suppose I made a good amount last year. But in the first 12 weeks of this one I have made so many more. From baseball; Jimmy-boy, Burl and Ed. From cricket; Johnny, JR, Chris, Tat, and Joe. From work; Jack, Rob, Eileen and Spillman. From everywhere else; Jeni, Carly, Maddie, Carly, Sarah, Josie, Poppy, Tim and Mike.
But most of all, Duncan. I can barely believe what close friends the two of us have become in such a short time. I seem to be able to talk to that boy about pretty much anything, and he has been the most wonderful support whenever I've needed it this year, and I hope I've gone some way towards being the same. Still can't take him *anywhere* of course, but I'll forgive him for that.
I hope everyone else has survived the term, despite its ups and downs. And although I'll be in Norwich for another week, I shall say now: See you all next year xxxxx.
