Ah, it was another exciting weekend at Regional Convention. Seeing all those USYers again put a smile on this Jew's face.
So I slept over Sam's house thursday night cause we had to be at the bus in New Rochelle at quarter to 8... that's why I wasn't in school Friday. So, we woke up at 6:30, got out of the house, went to Beth El New Rochelle, borded the bus, and we were off to the lovely and fabulous Swan Lake Hotel and Resort... unfortunately, I was being sarcastic there, but through the internet, emotion can only be showed by the little mood thing in your live journal... but that was sarcasm. The Swan Lake Hotel and Resort is... well...
It's shit. Pure, unadulterated shit. It's hot. Very hot. Unbearably hot. The food's horrible. Everything is falling apart. The floor sinks in them middle. The ceiling is really low. The showers are too small. Lights flicker and die constantly. The beds are too small. The elevators are very frightening. The entire place smells like fish and shit. And the people who work there are modern day pirates.
So, that's the Swan Lake Hotel in beautiful (sarcastic again... it's pretty much the ghetto of upstate New York) Swan Lake.
But, none-the-less, it was quite fun. Now, I usually complain about all the praying. Not this time. I also usually complain about how horrible the food is. Not this time. This time... it's something that made me want to kill myself the entire weekend... hours and hours and hours of listening to people talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk.
For example; there was a rabbi there - Rabbi Roth - who couldn't decide what sex he was. Either that or he is a 65-year-old man going through puberity. The man screeched more times than I have heard screeches total. It was complete and utter torcher... for about 2 hours. And then there were elections which took up 2 hours Friday afternoon and 2 hours Saturday night... hours of speeches by people who wanted to be elected. Kill me (I was up for election and had a fucking awesome speech but lost because the kid who I was running against is the son of the man who leads USY... so I had no chance). Then, there were thankyous. It seemed like every senior had to thank every other senior... personally. That took up a good 6 hours of the weekend. Then we were spoken to by our leaders and other people who felt they had to say things. So, a majority of the time, we were sitting and listening to things nobody wanted to hear.
But, it was still fun.
Saturday was the dance. Very short because the talking people decided to talk into our dance time. 45 minutes of dance. It was terrible.
But, it was still fun.
Saturday night we went to bed. Here's where the amusing anecdote comes in...
So, Saturday night me and my roommates (Sam, Josh - not me, different Josh, and Andy) are just hanging out and I'm really tired. So, I go to bed on one of the beds. Andy is in the other bed and Sam and Josh are on the floor. Usually we'd sleep two in a bed, but it's just so hot that if we did, we'd probably die.
Anyway, I go to sleep and the other guys are up. It's about 3 am and they're about to go to sleep when I yell in the middle of my sleep...
"Andy! Go get me some chicken in a cup!"
Now, they were all confused. Sam goes "What did you say?!" and I mumble something and sleep again. It was weird... and I had no recallection of it. It was quite funny when I heard about it.
Another time (going completely off topic of this weekend) me and Sam were at Kinnus. And, it's the middle of the night again, around 3 am, we're sleeping. All of a sudden, Sam wakes up cause he's feeling something on his leg. He looks over and sees me, sitting up, rubbing his shin. He looks at me and says "Josh, what are you doing?" and I say "I don't know." and go back to sleep. Didn't remember that either.
And this other time I yelled something about crack in my sleep, but we can't remember... anyway, I'm weird in my sleep.
So, Sunday morning we get up, pray, eat breakfast, listen to more people speaking, and then leave. The bus ride home was fun, even though it was close to 3 hours long - there was a lot of traffic. I told the anecdote to everybody on the bus (well, the people who were awake at least) and we took pictures of everybody who was asleep and we're gonna put them on the USY website. Haha, some of them were funny and some were kinda cute. The kid sitting next to me was sleeping and had this big drool slobber hanging out of his mouth and going down his face. Soo funny. Great picture too. So, we got to Mount Kisko on the bus and got picked up there and came home.
Now, I know this entire thing doesn't sound fun, but in all honesty it is a lot of fun. And it's things like this that make me happy I'm Jewish. Good times in USY.
And you all might find out what I'm talking about. In the fall, we're having Kinnus in Mahopac - it's first Kinnus in over 65 years! So, if some of you want, you can meet some of my USY friends. You'll love em. I love em. They're great and it's so much fun. Can't wait til the Israel Day Parade and Encampment '05! Woot woot!
And so that was Regional Convention. A great time at the beautiful Swan Lake Hotel and Resort.
