Visited Dayton

I returned Monday from a week-and-a-half-long excursion to Dayton. Here's a quick recap of the activities that ensued during the trip:
  • Hung out with Garrett in Columbus.
  • Attended Wright State's last ever May Daze.
  • Partied with some Wright State bff's at Alana's house.
  • Had a blast at Masque on several occasions (though my credit card is still a little sore from those binges).
  • Attended the Mu Crew Retreat at Glen Helen in Yellow Springs. Hard to believe that it's already my fifth retreat with them. My, how time flies!
  • Made some new friends in Dayton.
  • Ate lots of good food in Dayton: Cousin Vinny's pizza, Carrabba's, Bravo, Potbelly, Caribou Coffee.
  • Renewed my Ohio driver's license for another four years.
  • Stayed at Colby's place, where we entertained each other with Rocko's Modern Life, Supermarket Sweep episodes, shots of Jeager, and more.
  • Picked up my trumpet from storage at Leonda's and took it with me back to Montreal.
It was an excellent vacation. A nice break from the stresses surrounding life in Montreal.

The end of grad school is coming up so quickly. My thesis is due in August, and I still have a long ways to go on it. I need to start looking at jobs in the area. I'm hoping to stay in Montreal for at least another year so that I can stay here with Logan while he finishes up his Master's at McGill. We've begun looking at apartments together. I need to figure out stuff regarding my work permit and permanent residency in Quebec. So much stuff is coming up. Exciting, stressful, scary, uncertain, you name it... this summer is going to be a whirlwind.

I think I have some reason to be optimistic about the future. I'm hoping to find a job with a salary that satisfies my expectations for someone with a Master's degree. I'm hoping to get a nice place with Logan here in this fine city. I'm hoping to get into some new hobbies once the frenzy of the thesis dies down a little bit.

I miss the vibe of Dayton. Maybe because I took the time during my undergrad to explore a little bit outside of the Wright State bubble - something that I haven't done a great job of doing at McGill. This thesis has almost been an excuse for myself to hold back from exploring avenues and interests. It will be such a relief when it's all finally over.
