Okay. So, in canon, tennis isn't quite normal. Tennis can get you beaten up. Tennis has little regard for physics. Best of all, the boys playing the tennis can do some really strange stuff, like act like a ball mangnet or have perfect eyesight or run fast enough to leave image blurs.
Those examples are considered to be incorporated into playstyles, specifically. Yukimura himself has one, but it's an 'ability' rather than a playstyle. And while it isn't as flashy as turning into other people or going insane with changing skin colours, it's pretty freakin' scary.
Yukimura's 'yips'-like ability stems from two personality traits combined with natural talent. He's skilled enough to keep returning the ball, no matter what kind of insane move you throw at him. He doesn't even use any insane moves back! Together with his whole quiet persuasion shtick and just being really freakishly super intimidating, it creates a sense of helplessness in his opponent that just starts to shut them down. They go numb and can't feel anymore. Their vision blacks out, and they can't hear anything. It's ridiculous that it's so serious, of course, but that's how it goes.
Anyway, to give an example of just how intimidating Yukimura is on court, this ability managed to break Tooyama Kintarou, a slightly overconfident wild kid with a fearless sort of personality (well... mostly) who was strong enough to lift and throw a motorscooter once. More importantly, it affected the main character Echizen Ryoma, who is cocky as hell and always pretty damn sure he can win. (Ryoma managed to break out of it through his whole moral-of-the-story final form or whatever, but that's not the point).
SO THE POINT OF THIS POST IS, knowing this and how stupid but somehow-makes-more-sense-than-a-lot-of-crap-in-this-series it is, would your character be affected? Would they be annoying enough for Yukimura to use it off-court, or do you think that there would ever be a necessity for it? If they would be affected, could they break it? I'd like to know. o7
