Nozomi could be heard gasping before she ran to the scene, one hand over her Pinky Catch. Once she spotted Aigis, however, she skidded to a stop, tripped, and fell on her face.

"Oww..." She groaned. "Aigis-san, are you okay?"

Aigis didn't glance over until she heard the groan, too focused on internal system checks, but she turned her head quickly, startled and a caught a little off-guard, and saw Nozomi... in a heap on the ground. ... Well, alright then.

"I am fine," she answered, recapping her fingers in one quick movement. "Why? Is there a cause for concern?" Oblivious but not unfeeling, she abandoned her focus for the moment and walked over to crouch down beside Nozomi, checking to see if the girl was harmed in any way. "Are you alright, Yumehara-san?"

Nozomi rubbed her head and sat up. "Yeah, I'm all right! I was worried, since it sounded like someone was in trouble. I heard really loud shooting."

Aigis stood and was silent for a moment, before she bowed low, straightening back up again with the same blank expression.

"My apologies," she said, offering a hand to help Nozomi up. "I did not mean to create a disturbance. I was only running tests on my systems to check that all mechanics were operating as they should. I will try not to startle you in future."

Of all the things Joshua had expected to hear in this place, gunfire had been quite low on his list. So of course, he was going to investigate.

Somehow, running into the robot/cyborg/whatever-she-was didn't surprise him. Still, Joshua kept his distance, for the moment.

"You have weapons?"

Aigis noticed the way that Joshua cautiously kept his distance from her, and she quickly recapped her fingers and let her arms hang innocently by her sides, not wanting to appear as a threat or enemy when her main duty here would be to protect the residents until they could find a way out.

She nodded mechanically, keeping her arms down for the moment. "I have in-built weaponry and Persona-summoning ability. My primary function was to be a battle unit."

Joshua went quiet for a moment, looking her over. She wasn't making any hostile movements; he hadn't expected her to, but was aware of the possibility.

"Battle against what?"

Aigis continued to test while he was quiet for the moment, simple things - she spun her hands on their wrist joints to check for jams, and shifted and compressed the joints connected her shoulders to her torso. She needed to be in absolute best condition when she found Ryoji, if she was to protect him for an indeterminate amount of time from unknown dangers.

She looked up when she was spoken to. "We call them Shadows," she told him. "They are beings that only appear during the Dark Hour, and are a physical manifestation of human masks. If attacked, a regular person will revert to a near-comatose state known as Apathy Syndrome. It is my duty to destroy these Shadows."

II.

By sheerest instinct, Roxas didn't waste energy by running. Over the months, he'd memorized the areas with a sort of vicious, detailed sharpness that came of having too much time to waste. Darkness unraveled around him to leave him a few feet from the forest outskirts. He yanked Keyblades out of the empty air, and they swung down in his hands in a vicious flare of light. He turned--

--only to find that it wasn't anyone he knew after all. A girl with her hands outstretched, and no hooded figures in sight. Still, Roxas didn't lower his guard.

"What was that?"

Aigis had heard his approach, seen the wisps of darkness curling away at his feet, the weapons flashing into his hands, and although she was sure that he meant no harm - it was natural to be startled, or even frightened, by gunfire, she knew - she paused, and did not recap her fingers yet; instead, she let one arm hang loosely by her side, and the other hold her fingers (still smoking, just a little) pointing upright, to minimise the appearance of threat.

"I apologise," she said, bowing her head briefly. "I have been running status checks on my systems, and weaponry runs are a requirement of that. I did not mean to startle anyone."
