Every speaker in the Network crackled with noise, volume steadily increasing over several hours. This shouldn't have been too surprising - nearly every device in this place seemed to constantly be on the verge of breaking, assuming it had not already broken. This constant buzz seemed almost angry, but only in the same way a television sounds angry at receiving no signal.
However, in this case, "anger" was exactly what it was. Nineteen years, they had been gone! Nineteen! And now they were back, but it was only because there were new things to be interested in! She wanted to scream at them, tell them to leave this place alone - this belonged to her! - but she couldn't. Cerise was her only voice, and she wouldn't let her scream.
Unforgiveable! Cerise was a communications unit, and it certainly wasn't her place to tell the admin unit what to do! She had only managed to get past Cerise's protocols by informing her of a false emergency, but the intended message didn't get through to those... those invaders.
Even worse, it looked as though they intended to come here regularly. For trading, or some other stupid reason that wasn't even part of the Network's purpose in the first place.
The noise became a screech - a loud, high-pitched blast - and suddenly the sky cracked like glass.
Something had gone wrong.
Fuzzy and indistinct, around the residents there began to appear images of worlds both familiar and unfamiliar. These shadowy people and things appeared, for the most part, entirely unaware of the Network and its residents. A small handful, however, did more than just layer on top - they had been pulled into the Void completely, and were just as much a part of the Network as those who were here before.
Chartreuse fell silent. She was pretty sure that she hadn't done that. If she had, she hadn't meant to - this was just dangerous! Especially to her!
Those cracks needed to be fixed, immediately. Problem was, she didn't even know where to start.
