event: the second investigation

Sep 07, 2009 00:40

When the experiment displayed unusual signs of activity, years after it had been abandoned as a failure, they had sent in a small unit to investigate. Geared up with all the safety equipment they could need, and granted the ability to teleport away should they be sighted, the unit had entered the experiment and recorded everything they could. Unfortunately, their results were not the most satisfactory one could hope for: several "individual entities" had entered the Void through means unknown, some superficial changes had occured to the Network itself, and there were fish flying everywhere.

Most worryingly, however, was the abnormal behaviour of the Tri-Chroma Network. During the investigation, it became clear that only one of the three Units was responsive. However, Unit 02 was primarily a communications device; it was not in Cerise's programming to record information, only to relay it.

The team had attempted to access the Server Hub, where all three machines could be accessed, but somehow the door to Lab 4-03 was completely sealed off. Even they could not access it, not even for repairs.

They had left with those unsatisfactory findings, which generated limited interest from the other volunteers and scientists. Since then, they had done little related to the experiment, although the fluctuations in its strange energy was being monitored for any further abnormality. As a precaution, some had chosen to work on an update to Unit 02 Cerise's programming, so that should they ever need to return they could enable her to start recording.

It was not until several months later that a second investigation unit was sent into the Void. Equipped with precisely the same identity-concealling gear as the previous unit, with precisely the same instructions to teleport away upon sight, they arrived to find an expanded Network. Wildlife, plantlife, a water source and even a desert had appeared from nowhere, and this was the first thing to be dutifully recorded as vital information.

They were to take a census of the current population, take details of new developments, and to provide Cerise with a software update. Residents could see them as they performed their task, but if they were to approach them, the investigators would disappear in a flurry of pixel-like noise.

(This series of events hold more significance to the storyline than the first investigation. For now, however, the masked NPCs are not interactive. Characters are free to react in any way you deem appropriate.)
