a brief, random rant

that jeep commercial... it just ticks me off.

they use the song "sunshine (go away today)" by jonathan edwards.  i love the song.  a lot.  however, they rip the song apart and take various lines from various verses... and they don't make any sense and they don't rhyme.  i don't understand.

the lyrics they use are:

sunshine, go away today.
i don't feel much like dancing.
he tells me i'd better get in line.
i can't hear what he's saying.
sunshine, come on back another day.
i promise you i'll be singing.

umm... yeah... that doesn't make any sense.  they even had to change the way the melody fit the text to make it work musically in 30 seconds.  what the hell.

sunshine, go away today.
i don't feel much like dancing.
some ban's gone, he's tried to run my life.
i don't know what he's asking.

he tells me i'd better get in line.
i can't hear what he's saying.
when i grow up i'm going to make it mine,
but these aren't dues i've been paying.

how much does it cost?  i'll buy it.
the time is all we've lost, i'll try it.
he can't even run his own life,
i'll be damned if he'll run mine.  sunshine,

sunshine go away today.
i don't feel much like dancing.
some man's gone, he's tried to run my life.
i don't know what he's asking.

working starts to make me wonder where
the fruits of what i do are going.
he says in love and war all is fair,
but he's got cards he ain't showing.

how much does it cost?  i'll buy it.
the time is all we've lost, i'll try it.
he can't even run his own life,
i'll be damned if he'll run mine.  sunshine,

sunshine, come on back another day.
i promise you i'll be singing.
this old world, she's gonna turn around.
brand new bells'll be ringing.

yeah...

so, now, thanks to jeep, i have a great song stuck in my head, but in a sickeningly shredded form.
couldn't they just use one or two whole stanzas????

p.s.
i finally finished/sent the email to peter.  that only took me a week.  and a couple glasses of [wannabe] wine.  and i still just want to play my horn and cry...

rants, peter k, lyrics, lk sucks, horn, tv
