rainbows and other assorted festivities

congratulations, baltimore; you've almost survived pride month!

here is the analogy that i have created to describe my relationship with pride (i'm really proud of it):
it's like a really complex recipe...
the kind where you crave the food intensely and no other taste will do. so you go to the supermarket and buy the ingredients.. there are more of them than you remembered and it's slightly out of your price range, but you purchase them anyway. then you go home and do the prep work.. you almost cut your finger. twice. cooking takes forever. by this time you've lost your patience. it's taking you three times as long to prepare the dish than it will to eat it and you cant understand why you thought it was so good to begin with. but as the aromas begin to burst forth from your kitchen you are caught off guard. suddenly your mouth waters and your stomach gurggles and your eyes glare lustfully at the kitchen timer, begging it to sound. the second that the food is ready you tear into it, completely forgetting plates and utensils. the first bite is heavenly and you dont understand why you dont cook this more often because it's JUST SO GOOD! you eat until you are full and then keep on eating. you eat the whole thing. two hours later you can be found catatonic on the sofa chugging a bottle of pepto bismol and watching anything but the food network. the kitchen is still a mess and you feel like a bloated beached whale.
you vow NEVER AGAIN WILL I PUT MYSELF THROUGH THAT!...
... a year later the craving comes back and you've blocked out everything but that first bite.

let's see if i can pick out some highlights from this past month:
* went to selected activities at dc pride with dinah and a little bit emma. the dyke march was disappointing but i had a lot of fun at apex that saturday night. i liked knowing so many people at a pride that wasnt mine.
* our producers went to girlscout camp the week before baltimore pride and delegated their responsibilities to me and lucky. mostly lucky which was awesome (i'm now calling her the emperor because she is the king of kings) and a bunch of other kings helped out a lot, but it was still a lot of work every night. but it was worth it because we got it all done, so yippee skippee hooray!
* camp started. it's pretty much the hardest job ever. those kids are insane and this past week was very much the "i'm going to test you and see if you're worth listening to" week, but i passed and i think the camp passed as a whole. well done, julie little.
* baltimore pride was insane.
- friday night i did a bunch of stage labor and performed twice; once with shane and his bio queen and once with scott and laura. the bar was so far over capacity that people were being pushed up onstage and against the walls making them accidentally turn off lights. it was great, though, to have such a powerful audience... even if no one could really see us.
- scott, laura, and andi (a new transman in town who is rooming with diesel) slept over friday night. laura and i bonded through our understandings of transmen. we had a whole conversation with our eyes and body language which basically said, "they are really stupid. stupid like boys. and it's cute. wtf??? we think that we're so gay that we can even date transpeople and we like them because they're stupid boys. i repeat, wtf???" what a strange sexuality i have, but they are indeed attractive, odd creatures. my transman will be here this time next week and i am very excited.
- the block party and parade were fun. i was the faggiest mover ever for our float. we were the ccb lesbian moving company. this included cutoff tshirts with our logo and slogan, rainbow painted boxes, diesel's black mustang convertable, and a rented flatbed uhaul truck. it was pretty fabulous.
- druid hill was a good time for about the first hour. i performed new kids on the block with scott, laura, skyler and lucky. it really didnt have any hope of not being the worst performance ever because only lucky is old enough to really remember them with fondness and none of us wanted to do it, but we did anyway because lucky is the emperor and it meant a lot to her. it was 100 degrees out before noon and i was in face and a binding shirt the whole time. i almost passed out until i was sat down and made to cool down. after that odd girl out played and that made up for all of it. i went home and went to sleep.
* last night was last kiss. i pimped it like my most flexible ho (another analogy that i am proud of). it would have been awesome had scott not gotten alcohol poisoning.
* hannah leaves tomorrow for camp and i'm a little bit of a wreck but i want to make this a positive experience for her and not ruin her camp with my sadness.
* alex will be here in less than a week.

i know that that was long and probably unnecessary, but this really has been a big month. there was more that i could have written but even i was getting sick of this entry when i re-read it so i decided to cut it off.
i like having stories.
