I feel the same. Coming from the Supernatural fandom (oh god), those guys get asked about it constantly, and that was the first time I'd ever experienced real life and fandom meeting in that precise way. I was not into it and it pretty much solidified my feelings about it.
It is mortifying that people would ask questions about something like sexual orientation, but a lot of fans feel entitled to. There are arguments to be made that celebrities should expect to field such questions. And there are some fans who feel like nothing a celebrity's life should be private because they're getting paid so much to entertain.
Personally, I can't understand why an intensely private, sensitive person would put themselves out there to begin with. Bizarre questions should be expected anymore. I'm not saying they should have to answer them directly, just be prepared to field them and roll with the punches.
Edit: I just wanted to add I don't think it's okay to embarrass someone, only that I'm surprised when a celebrity does show embarrassment/shock/offense to crazy questions.
Sticking my two cents in here to say I agree with everything jblostfan16 stated. James actually reading the question aloud aside, the only thing that's going to happen if inquiries like this continue is less and less fan interaction. And I wouldn't blame them one bit.
I absolutely agree with this. (Someone filmed that question with Nick, I am relatively certain, because I remember seeing it and being like OH MY GOD
( ... )
"A lot of the kids in this fandom forget that sexuality is a very personal thing to people, and just because the boys are famous and have fans, that doesn't mean their rights as humans are taken away."
THIS.
I got extremely uncomfortable with fans asking JB how they masturbate. Actually asking if nick had encountered written stories about him having sex with his own brother is beyond skeevy, for all of the reasons you stated as well as just basic human courtesy, man. That shit is NOT COOL. (No matter how much I like to read about it, in RL their junk, their business.)
