So, I concur with you 100% about the accommodations! I only agreed to the hostel thing because my son and his wife were trying to keep the expenses down for all 5 in this party of adventurers. I can be a good sport, as long as there is a great abundance of humor and good food. The topper in this aspect of the trip was that in Cape Town, my daughter and I were on our own for the last 2 days. The first night of our solo venture, at 4:30 in the morning, we hear screaming and fast and furious hysterics from the French woman in the unit right below us. She had been robbed of her jewelry and documents, and all her clothing and things were strewn on to the sidewalk. This madness continued until the sun rose, and still no police came to investigate. I could write pages about the lack of safety these people in South Africa have to endure. Well, the gist is that we left the hostel that morning and went to the perfectly marvelous and fluffy bedded hotel down by the waterfront. Lots of $$$, but breakfast was included! We delighted in bubble baths and warm towels! Three weeks like that would have been out of my reach, but those 3 days were heaven!
Gotta go work. There is chaos here too! The boss wants to quit and there is much drama! Life is such theater. One last comment. How is it possible for my whole family to get along together for 3 weeks in the wilds and be at each others throats the moment they return to the states? I think I may permanently run away or join the circus! I like being around elephants. BS
