Well, time flies, doesn't it? This has been a pretty successful year for me so far in gliding. In April I attended the Scottish Cross Country Development Week, which was really good. Bad Decisions
Some days I just don't seem to be able to do anything right, and this was one of those days. It started off okay, after arriving at the airfield I went through to the hangars to help get gliders out. Me and my Faux-Pro
I've been getting a lot of flying in lately, which is great. The only issue though of course is that it's burning through my flying fund. I had built up a bit of a buffer (especially in those annoying months where I kept having 3 week breaks between flights), but now, I've pretty much burnt through it. Gliding 2 September
After my bad ground run last time out, I decided to put myself down for an aerotow checkflight. Technically not required, but I figured that it couldn't hurt. A dodgy ground run
It's been a bit of a case of feast or famine, or in this case, famine then feast. I'd flown on the 24 June, then there was a 5 week gap until the 29 July when I managed to fly again. Then a nearly 3 week gap to Friday 18 August (I was there for Walking on Air). After that however, I was able to fly on 23 August (Wednesday), and then again on 26 ( Read more... ) -
Alex goes gliding
My brother (Grant) and sister (Pamela) and their respective clans, came up for a holiday. Knowing that his son, Alex (11), is aviation mad, we had made plans to take him to the gliding club to see the gliders.

A sad day
This summer so far has turned out to be a bit difficult to get to the gliding field. After 29 July, I found myself once again unable to get to the field. I put £100 / month into my flying fund, so I console myself with the idea that it's building up when I'm unable to fly, and it does help because it means when the opportunity is there I'm able to ( Read more... ) -
Gliding 29 July
July was a difficult month for me gliding-wise. My last flight was on 24 June, where, to my surprise, I was allowed to fly the Perkoz solo. Later, it turns out that I was sent out in the Perkoz solo by mistake, by the CFI no less. :D I was surprised at the time, but had I had any doubt about my ability to bring it back safely I wouldn't have taken ( Read more... ) -
I re-solo
Coming up to the end of the year, I realised that I needed to take a day's leave before next Friday, or lose it. I could have just simply taken next Friday off (with the week between Christmas and New Year's the office being closed), but that seemed a little pointless. Speed control and the flare
So I've been flying each Monday (excepting for when it gets cancelled like today due to weather). For quite a while I've been flying with David and I feel that I'm pretty close to (re-)solo.
