One day Cally's in for one rude awakening. I'm actually looking forward to that particular reveal. ;-)
Hell, the human race was a kind of family now.
This was my favorite line. It is so true in so many ways.
Sometimes he caught himself looking at her with the same feeling he had when he looked at his son; amazement that something so small could be such a fighter. It filled him with an overwhelming desire to protect them both from anything that could harm them.
Now this, this seems right and true to them. Weird for them to build a marriage on but true. And though this isn't my favorite pairing, I like the Chief and the idea that he has some genuine love for them. Thanks for this. And also somehow in a fic where she has no lines, you make me worry about Kara through it all. Not a surprise because she is as the fic says, Kara. Good job at viewing Kara's situation through the Tyrols' eyes.

It will be interesting, for sure. The gods writers sure have a sick sense of humor.
This was my favorite line. It is so true in so many ways.Thank you. :) Cally's always been so loyal to her "group," whoever they are, that it kind of makes sense to me that she could forgive people like Baltar, especially if they had a common enemy ( ... )

I think my favorite section here is where Chief and Sam are using the double talk via Kara to discuss their rather ironic situation. And having that lead to the reuse of these lines from the show:
“You think you love someone, you love them.”
“What?”
“That’s what love is, right? Thoughts.”
Good story!

Yeah, that's the thing. I wish that, if they were going to go in such a twisted direction, they had spent a bit more time developing the relationship. As it is, there was very little indication that they had feelings for each other prior to the beating, and, yeah.
Yeah, can you tell I like writing that scene or what? ;) It's also one of the relatively few times Adama-philosophy has made complete sense to me, so ...
Thanks for the feedback!

I enjoyed the tie to your other fic; it’s fun to see things from the opposite side.
If you stopped to think too much you'd be overcome by all the things that had happened to you, and then; well, Cally still got the occasional ache in her jaw to remind her of what might happen then. She figured she could get her explanation later.
Oh, Cally. *sniff*
Everybody liked to divide up the world into us and them, define themselves by what they were against, but Cally took it to an extreme.
Heh, this is what’s so handy about her character on the show. That’s what people do, and she can be such a point of contention for doing it... but we all act that way.

I'm glad you liked the tie-in; it felt slightly like cheating!
And I agree - I kept thinking last season that the writers kind of passported Sharon's redemption and acceptance story, and somewhat implausibly had people treat her and Helo like an interracial couple in a moderately conservative neighborhood. And Cally was written as the sole voice of opposition and anti-Cylon sentiment, which was a tough burden for her character to bear.
I just realized that both the prompts I chose were yours. I guess I'm well on my way to SWF'ing you! The other one is coming, I promise! Er, someday. ;) (It's at roughly 2k, which means I'm about halfway done, judging by my other two?)

Hah! I did the same thing with my two on-Earth fics, so... and if I ever do write a third on-Earth fic I'll probably do it again.

Yeah, it's a bit mind-boggling to be shown only one person who's truly not accepting of the enemy married and in their midst. (And really, she had an excellent point. But I don't trust Sharon very much. Eh.)

Oh noes, I'm being stalked ficced! No worries about what you're writing now. I'll just sit here waiting jealously, 'cause I can't write longish stuff patiently.

Okay, now you've got me curious. I always think of you as a major Cylon-sympathizer because of your Leoben love, but maybe not?
I've trusted Sharon ever since she was willing to go along with the genocide plan - I figure if she'd had any hidden protocols, they would have kicked in then. But I actually liked her better before I totally trusted her - she was more interesting to me with the internal conflict and the alien way of looking at the world. ("We could have set you up with someone you liked!)

Not unless you don't mind losing an ear!
Yeah, she definitely is not a character you can be indifferent to. I know what you mean about Galen kind of parenting or big-brothering her, definitely. I wonder if that's just the chemistry the actors have, or what? But I think the age and rank difference has to be an issue for them.
Withholding judgement and trying to understand different points of view is pretty much my motto with this series.
I'm so glad you liked the family backstory! It was seriously fun for me to imagine. And I think the first installment of "A Song of Ice and Fire" is somewhere in my possession, and now I really want to check it out.
But she's always loyal to the bitter to the end to anyone she currently counts in her pack. And people whom she perceives as a threat - she has absolutely no patience, no sympathy for them.
*glees* That's exactly what I was trying to convey!
I both am excited for this moment, and dread it too.
I know. Cally ( ... )

Yeah, I know. Sadly, this show doesn't seem to do "okay" very well. It definitely got an "unsatisfactory" on its kindergarten report card for "works and plays well with others".
This icon is yet another example of how even the side characters on BSG get put through loads and loads of "not okay". ;)

Too true! That's why I like writing hopefulish endings for the characters - I know Ron is probably going to crush my soul canon-wise. *lights a small candle* ;)
I've always liked Gaeta but was never a huge fan - but then he was so compelling in the New Caprica arc. (Not to mention, seriously hot with the slightly longer hair.) He's another character who's not going to have an easy time of it next season, I'll bet. :/

God, this fic. I love it. I'm not the most Cally-positive person in fandom (I HOPE I'm not the most negative, though) but you really dug into her perspective and made me feel for her. When she gets all Us vs. Them, it's because the Us half is so important to her, and she's so afraid for it and defensive and it makes her strong. The ending is so sweet but you can still see the utter tragedy looming.
(Also, eee! Dialogue echoes! I love them so. That Adama line Tyrol repeats is one of my favorites, actually. Tyrol broke my heart in this too.)

Exactly. And I think that's a very human (and cylon?) way to look at things, especially in such threatening circumstances.

lalalalala! ;) But yes, much as I hope for things to work out I just couldn't think of a way to resolve things fully. So they're okay now, but only because Cally is still in the dark and Chief has reconciled himself to that for now - how long that situation can last, though...
I'm glad you liked the dialogue echoes! I stole that bit from Double-Talk, which was the first one I wrote.
Thanks so much for the feedback!
