Inspiration Day: If a Tree Falls in the Forest ...

Morning, peeps.

Pledging Post

Thought you guys might be interested to know that if we managed to get everyone who has pledged so far (and we still have two days to go) up to their maximum pledges by writing enough fic, then we would raise $1182. And that's not counting the people who have not set a maximum pledge ( Read more... )

(I don't think I've gotten her down at all, but hey- first time ever trying. It's also three in the morning and I'm not sure if this even makes sense)

She always found it easier to see the world through a forest. Dappled light, equal parts shadow and illumination, cast upon the ground. Nothing ever fully revealed, and nothing totally hidden. The world above and below the trunks honest to the cycles of life. Old leaves moulding on the ground in a dull carpet while new life budded green on the branches.

Life, death, and the sickly sweet decay inbetween.

She could produce this world whenever she wanted, but when she stood upon solid ground, she wished to see it through the planet's eyes.

New Caprica was a gray world with soft light, hardly strong enough to illuminate the planet, so its sun did not create the patterned effect through the trees. The leaves that did fall cracked like old shells beneath her feet. It seemed the earth was not strong enough to reclaim its fallen pieces, simply letting them turn to restless dust. If something grew on the branches she could not see it, but it must exist for the trees weren't bare.

It was as if the forest did not know if it was alive or dead. A broken, confused cycle.

Caprica thought of her own people, able to die but always alive. This world, alive yet dead, stagnant but somehow aging. Perhaps on this confused world they could come together with the humans. Bring a new cycle of life to both their people.

Hee! Well, that's what these little games are for - trying out things you might never have tried before :)

I think this is lovely. Curious Caprica Six, wanting to experience things for real instead of just conjuring them in a projection, and trying to see new ways to push forward for her people.

Curious Caprica. Heh, my new favorite alliteration, I think!

Real world vs projevtion is fun. Exactly what a projection is is something I've been curious about. Is it just how they navigate things? But Boomer uses one to mindfrak Tyrol, so I always wondered what the cylons thought of them as- the difference between cylon reality, projection, and reality.

There's a poetic contemplative feel to your writing, which reminds me very much of Caprica!Six.

She isn't a character I've honestly given much thought to... Exactly what lense she views the world through isn't something I've tried to find before, so I'm very glad this style matches her.

I sort of fell across the anology while I was writing, and I was thinking about how New Caprica is almost always described as having one season in 'fic. (yet manages to have trees that aren't evergreen with leaves)

It made me think of the cylons so I figured she could come up with the camparison too xD

This is just lovely! Beautifully written and poignant. Love the contrast of her projection forest and New Caprica - her (naive) hope is so genuine.

I think her hope for a peaceful coexistence is the only thing I get about Caprica!Six at the start of the Occupation.

Glad you enjoyed this.
