There were moments she regretted.
Frak…
...she regretted a lot of things. Fragments of old failings that worked as an ever present threat waiting to swamp her. Her past a dull ache in her head. And being honest, it seemed as if so many of those regrets related to him. So many churning questions she had about their times together. Doubts on her sanity. Questions about his.
It all felt too much.
Sensing it, he'd come to her with a face as blank as stone. Stood staring without speaking. Until she crumbled that was, for then his arms had reached around her in a supreme tenderness while he'd whispered words of comfort in her ear. He whispered that he was sorry and that he regretted what he'd done.
She'd struggled at first, the touch not wanted even as it was needed. But then this had always been the way between them. He'd held on regardless, letting her get it out. Letting her scream and rage until it broke. A rock against which she could ride out the tide to find some kind of peace.
And eventually it worked. Spent, she had stilled.
He'd stepped back then and let her go.

The next day she played a song she’d never thought to hear again. It and his touch were the last times she really felt anything, even regret, until she grasped a key in her hand and remembered to trust in herself.
