Claudia, Queen of the Seventh Grade - Part 1

Hello! I’m a long-time lurker and almost first-time snarker (I think I tried snarking the BSC postcard set many years ago but only did a fraction of them). I'm also incredibly shy, so I don't comment much, even though I read and love the entries that you all post. I've been wanting to snark a book for awhile now, and I finally have some free time, ( Read more... )

And I know SMS has a dance every time someone shits--lmfao, truly!

but they also have a Prom?--Scraping the bottom here imo. I stick with what I've said on other snarks, they should've made a gamble and had the girls go to 9th grade by this point in time. The FF series still could've happened by letting them go up to 10th grade. It might've injected a bit more into the series instead of "We're back in 8th grade again. We're going to another dance again. Lather, rinse, repeat"

Didn’t someone just recently do a book where she admitted to not having done much any school work all year? --I think that's been mentioned a couple of times throughout the series.

It’s hard to feel too badly for her when she has a sister and parents and a best friend who are all more than willing to tutor her and she just blows them off.--It really makes me wonder how she got her family off her back when it concerns the help she gets with her homework. I know in an earlier book it sounded like different family members helped her each night. I don't see how throwing a tantrum would get them off her back without them pointing out that she NEEDS help. And I still feel bad for Stacey during her time tutoring Claudia. Stacey wasn't doing anything bad. It made sense to get Claudia out of her room instead of Claudia being distracted by eating candy, having art supplies nearby so she could draw instead of focus on her school work, being able to look at her clothes so she could mentally plan out themes for the rest of the week, etc.

And then I read the line where she says she felt “devastated, destroyed, and humiliated,” and I feel like a jerk for not being as sympathetic.--I wouldn't be tbh. I do understand how the experience had to have been embarrassing beyond belief. But this is also a girl that gets so many chances and she flakes off instead. I really blame the writers for not writing that she had a learning disability instead of just being lazy or blaming Janine. I said on an older snark that there were times I'd slack off. And then I'd get my ass back in gear when progress reports came out.

so I’m curious to see how Kristy’s dealing with this whole other set of friends)--I'm surprised Claudia didn't get shunned. Or maybe it's a deal like what I was talking about with Jessi after Mallory left. It truly had to have been devastating for Jessi to know that the best friend she has in the cult/best friend in 6th grade is gone. It had to have been a case of mixing with the other 6th graders but keeping them at arms length. "I can be friendly with you, just don't expect us to become friends." I realize Jessi left the cult in the FF series. Here's hoping she could mingle with whoever she wants without anybody jumping on her ass about it.

You know, the marshmallows THAT HAD BEEN PICKED UP OFF THE FLOOR during their food fight. --*head desk*

but her 8th grade friends all react rather shittily.--The best friends you'll ever have! :)

(which implies that there were THREE separate Halloween dances this time-loop?)--These later books are batshit crazy when it concerns the time loop.

On their way out of the cafeteria, 7th grade friends run into 8th grade friends--And I cringe at awkward that must be. The cult isn't friendly to outsiders. My guess is an outsider would only last a few minutes trying to interact with the cult before the outsider makes up some excuse to get away. And I'm not even talking about having a one sided conversation with the outsider about kids/babysitting/the cult. I'm talking the attitude of "What are you doing talking to us? We're better than you. *bitchface on full display*

Every day I wondered what they were talking about, what jokes I was missing, what gossip I’d be the last to hear.”--I doubt you're missing much, Claudia. My guess is the girls talk about the same shit every single day. It's never a case of talking about the new Madonna song that came out, something funny happening in class, etc. I bet it's the usual theme of Kristy makes disgusting jokes about the lunch, cult talk, water cooler discussion about the kids they sit for, bitching if any of the cult members are babysitting any of the "problem" children for that day.

You're doing a great job so far! Can't wait to read the next part! :)
