Inspired by lisaerins enjoyable snark of the BSC Remember, I decided to make a mini-snark about the illustrations in said book, because I'm a simple human being who prefers picture books to all those annoying words and such ( Read more... )

I LOVE the illustrations. Even if they're bad, I just love them because I can. The picture of Kristy, DM and Louie is so cute. Jessi and Squirt is adorable. Even Shannons picture is really good, except for the "who took this photo? Why did they take it? Were they spying on her? And why did they give her a copy of it? That's CREEPY!"

It's probably why I loved Sweet Valley Kids. We got an illustration per chapter. I absolutely LOVE the one in whatever book is devoted to the 2nd grade twins miraculously saving an abandoned lot by planting a garden and making it a park. We get to see BABY BRUCE. He's like, 8, and it's pre-rape Bruce and pre-Porsche Bruce, but his little hair is all spikey and he wears his shirt collar standing up all cool-like. And Mr. Patman looks like Mr. Rogers. I am not kidding. Edit: When I re-read this, thinking about snarking it, I realized in almost every single picture of the kids working in the park/lot/garden thing, there's a building in the background. And 9 times out of 10, there's a wee little kitty in the window which makes me go "awwwww"

i actually am in the middle of reading "baby-sitters remember" because of this post! the illustrations really are one of my favourite parts of any super special. :) i haven't read this book in like, two decades, so it's been pretty amazing. lol. i really like this book, which kind of shocked me, but it made me much more sympathetic toward some of the girls. plus there isn't the usual bitchiness toward one another or creepy power trips and all of that. kind of like watching the episodes of the tv show, where they were much closer to being the good friends we're meant to believe they are in the books but obviously aren't, there's just something refreshing about it, if that makes sense.

maybe i'm just sentimental tonight. lol.

i have to read some of those old sweet valley kids books!
