Well, I felt like doing a Super Special, I already did #2 (oh god that came out wrong. The Alan Grays of the world are snickering), and I'm not in the mood for the SS #6: Stacey is a Huge Bitch right now. So I picked this one because I felt like reading it again.

Although now that I bring it up, Kristy, your stepdad is a goddamn millionaire--That's true. And come on, not like the other girls are hurting financially either.
“You know what?” I said, when my friends and I were actually holding the cheque. --And it's hilarious we didn't have parents stepping in and saying "Hold on, you can spend a little bit of the money but the majority of the shares you have will be going towards your education." or at least something serious along those lines.
So, yeah, that's what they're doing. No mention of what Jack's response was when they BSC told him - you know they didn't ASK - they were coming.--Really not surprising they didn't ask. I KNEW not to count my chickens before they hatched. I would want to get a definite okay before making plans that might fall through because I came down to earth long enough to finally ask and be told "There's no way in hell all those people are going to be able to stay with us for two weeks."
Mary Anne is making them both late for a BSC meeting by packing for CA even though they're not leaving for another week--I could see myself doing this tbh. And I'd more than likely make a list to go along with it.
Second of all, it just occurs to me that I have no idea what Stoneybrook does while the BSC is on their Super Special adventures. Do they call other students?--I'm sticking with my scifi theory--all people freeze in one spot until everybody gets back. :)
She did a bunch of drawings of junk food.--I'm not buying into the Claudia's a genius in the art department anymore. I feel that way because of the Ashley book when Claudia acted like she was one step away from eating glue because she didn't understand a lot of what Ashley was talking about when it concerns art.
but they're presented as having these traits. --I just blame the writers. I'd damn well make sure my characters have the traits they're supposed to have or it's all going to come off as one big joke after another. And yep, that's what we got when it concerns this series...
Miss Described as "Not Pretty, But Pleasant" in her Intro Book.--They should've kept that description. I want to gag thinking about how the majority of the girls are described with model looks. I don't buy it. I can possibly buy one or two being extremely attractive but I also expect characters that look like a typical 13 year old or 11 year old. I feel like they nailed that for Mallory. I know she has such a high level of self hatred but I bet she looks like a typical 11 year old would. But I get the added insecurities since she's surrounded by a bunch of girls that look like models.
Stacey is a really terrific person---HA!
Dawn "admires" Stacey for giving herself insulin injections daily. 1. is it really admirable to do something that keeps you from dying?--I hate the way they treat Stacey's insulin injections. It might be "EW!" to you and it might've been "EW!" to Stacey to start with but one tends to get used to doing things if they have to.
Kristy's complaining about how bad the plane smells--Wow, I'm surprised we don't have the usual Kristy being gross shtick we usually get.
and I pity anyone sitting near them.--Headphones, liquor or pills will be needed during this trip imo.
“Who’s Alfred Hitchcock?” asked Mallory.--BULLSHIT. Hitchcock was a big name movie wise and we also have the tv series. Alfred Hitchcock Presents started in 1955 and The Alfred Hitchcock Hour was in the 60s. There's NO FUCKING WAY these girls can be obsessed with 50s/60s tv series and at least not seen a listing for either series or even a commercial for either series!

“You know where I want to go when we get to L.A.?” Claudia shouted to Dawn. (I’m sure the other passengers loved us.)--Raised in barns imo. These are the type that'd go to a movie theater and be as obnoxious as possible while others are trying to watch the movie.
“Yeah! Just like they did on I Love Lucy,” agreed Claud. --Do they have BSC drinking games? I imagine we'd all have alcohol poisoning every single time they mention "I Love Lucy" or anything related to Lucy.
I do actually believe that the littler kids would watch it - it was on Nick at Nite and a lot of the humor is kid-friendly;--I can buy some of them watching it but I can't believe every young person in Stoneybrook watches it and that's certainly how it was set up.
Also, I Love Lucy shows up in, like, ALL of AMM's books, not just the BSC-verse.--It's just laziness imo. "I don't give a damn about researching what's popular for kids and teenagers in the 80s and 90s so I'll use what I like." And come on, this would've been one of the easiest things to research. Talk to kids and teens, pick up some magazines aimed at tv shows, movies, music, etc.
I have a really hard time believing that Vertigo would scare teenagers.--I'll put it this way, Psycho didn't scare me. Idk if I'm looking at it from a current frame of mind or what. Maybe if I'd been a kid/teenager in the 60s, maybe it would scare me. I reference Psycho because it's the only Hitchcock movie I've seen.
Dawn gets her panties in a wad. --*rolls eyes*
She loves music, and knows a lot about MTV and music videos and stuff.--MTV GOT A MENTION? HOLY SHIT! I'm surprised they can even follow what Carol's talking about. "Have you seen the new Madonna video?" *blank stares* "What about the new Mariah Carey video?" *cricket noises*
Which is mildly upsetting since I started reading these books when I was Vanessa Pike's age.--I get it. I'm bumping up on that age. My 32nd birthday will be in May. It weirds me out tbh.
I actually like some (but not most :P ) current music! --I gotta admit I like a few "current" artists but a lot of them are still under the radar when it concerns American audiences.
But I really don't understand the whole "people can only like things that were popular in their youth" notion.--I like what I like, whether it's old, new, off the wall, popular, etc.
Anyway, the BSC only likes Elvis, the Beach Boys and occasionally the Beatles (except for Stacey's boy band phase)--I feel the same way about what I've said about the tv shows. I can picture some younger people liking older musicians. But I can't see it for everybody in Stoneybrook. If we were being realistic, I'd see the majority liking what was popular at that moment.
So...hypocrite much, Dawn? YOU like the things I assume CAROL is supposed to like, and that's fine.--Let me guess the mocking Carol would get if the girls actually liked current stuff while Carol liked Elvis, the Beatles, the Beach Boys, etc. "Get out of the wayback machine, Carol!!!"
I knew there was no reason to be competitive, but, well, I did feel that I had sort of invented baby sitting clubs, and that I knew best. --Somebody PLEASE pop this girl's overinflated head. Major eye rolling here.
Enjoying the snark! :)

And yeah, I don't think Claudia is all that brilliant. I suspect part of the reason she and Ashley fell out was Claudia's need to be the biggest fish in a tiny pond.

Your right they really aren't. Not even the Pikes who are suppose to be poor and yet rent a house every year in Sea City. And for as wealthy as Kristy's stepdad gets bragged about Ed has to be just as wealthy for the lifestyle Stacey enjoys, plus supporting himself and almony checks to Maureen.

Yeah, I don't buy the artistic genius either. It seemed like everyone Ashley said was so far over her head it was actually sad. At 13, I was competing in horse shows and it was basically my life's passion. And I learned everything I could about it. I get Claudia's not into school type things, but if she loved art so much and wanted to be an artist professionally...shouldn't she know some of those things, including the very, very basic concept of 'abstract' art?
