Goodness, you guys. I'm sorry I totally slacked on this snark. I was 'busy' playing on Tumblr and with my Sims. See, I found out about painting goblins and decided to make a town run on horror. And because it takes more than half an hour before you can even play the game, I was just not writing. And everytime a 'You should be writing!' post came up

The whole language of Jackie's disinterest really bothers me. She says things like he's saying things 'dully' or with boredom and none of that registers with her. It reads that he isn't having the slightest bit of fun but Jessi just barrels ahead and does what she wants. It's really disheartening that they treat kids like amusing little toys and never get called out on it.

The BSC would have hated me too because I was the same way. I'm an only child so I was used to playing by myself and keeping quiet. I could see that some of their projects might interest me (art and quiet things) but generally I preferred to just do my own thing. And yes, that includes watching the Devil's Box.

I feel really bad about Jackie at the science fair. He was basically humiliated. That's a hard thing for a kid. I totally agree that he should have talked to his parents about letting the BSC sit for him. Kids do pick up on their elder's emotions and I'm sure acting like him tripping is on par with him destroying a priceless antique isn't good for him. It would make me so happy if one kid said they don't like the BSC. Even if they never sat for that kid again or 'solved' that problem. It's ridiculous to think every kid would like them when they're not even good sitters in the first place.

I think back to my middle school best friends and one was way tall and thin, another was in the middle and chubby, and I was short and curvy. None of us would be able to wear each others clothes. Even in my family, no one can share clothes. Ann is so scared of anyone thinking her characters are over a size 5, she same faces everyone. And when someone does break that mold, they're constantly shat upon for not fitting that strict look. Like, seriously. Claudia couldn't be a little chubby? She had to have the metabolism of a hummingbird? I think the only time someone was described as anything but 'model like' was when Mal was called 'sturdy'. Because of course she was. If someone's not going to be perfectly thin, it has to be Mal. I seriously hate Ann so much.

It's just really bad the girls don't see or don't care about cues they're being given. Again, the stuff Jackie's doing is PAINFULLY obvious.

Same here about being an only child. That was my deal. I could entertain myself and come up with my own ideas for entertaining myself. It was something I was used to. I certainly wouldn't have appreciated all the prodding about doing something else. Yeah, I could see myself playing with some of the stuff in the Kid-Kit.

I think it would've been entirely realistic for the girls to have met kids that didn't like them. No doubt the girls would think the KIDS were the problem instead of thinking that maybe the kids are able to see how awful the girls truly can be. It goes beyond the nagging about activities. I wouldn't appreciate being judged for the way I looked if you want one example. The girls only orgasm over each other (exception for Mallory) and everybody else is judged critically.

I think that's one of the huge things that bothers me about these books. Okay...I can maybe buy one of the girls being attractive enough to be a model. But give me a fucking break when more than one is described that way. Again, I point to Dawn. Okay, I realize her hair is one of the first things Mary Anne noticed about her. But overall Mary Anne called her plain looking. Why couldn't Dawn have kept that description? I imagine the majority of the readers couldn't relate to all these model girls that looked PERFECT. Did any of them ever have a zit? It's just unrealistic all the way around.

It's still unfortunate that these books makes me want to shun them having any of the girls be chubby/overweight. And I feel like a hypocrite for saying that. I just don't think I could handle the remarks coming from the girls in the chapter 2s if one of them had a weight problem. I feel like I could bite a telephone pole in half during any of Norman Hill's storylines. And it's not because of Norman...it's the reaction he gets from so many around him.

It would probably kill Ann to know that so many fans like and sympathize with Mallory. Everything was loaded onto Mallory's back instead of the issues being spread throughout the characters. You've got 6 perfect people + one normal person is how I look at it.

I'm pretty sure the girls just don't care that the kids were unenthusiastic. In Stacey and the Fashion Victim,Abby and Jessi are babysitting the Barrett/DeWitt group and the babysitters want to go outside. No one is enthusiastic. The kids outright say their ideas sound boring. Abby gets offended. And when Buddy wants to watch wrestling, the BSC forces the kids to play some bullshit Olympics game outdoors. Suzi outright asks if she has to and Jessi says yes. So I'm quite sure the BSC are just bossy children on the playground making everyone play whatever game they want.

"Abby gets offended"--It just blows my mind how these girls get so butthurt so easily at times. Surely they've been around other people that wanted to do things and they thought those things sounded boring.

Kids want to peacefully watch wrestling, why throw a big deal instead of doing homework, reading, looking at a magazine or just watching wrestling with them.

Of course they've been around people who wanted to do things that they personally aren't interested in! They'd bitch and moan about how could anyone find that fun.
